My personal opinion from the outside.

If Colombia win the Copa and win it undefeated also going through the hardest path possible (like Uruguay in the quarters, Brazil in the semis and Argentina in the final) and do it somewhat in style (I mean not by bunker football) then my answer would be A.

But I still think that proper respect you can earn only on the biggest stage which is the World Cup. Colombia have never reached the last four thus far.

Unless the Copa run to the trophy would be very memorable I think a World Cup semi-final would do more for Colombia's prestige.

Yikes. Last time we were favorites to win the WC, was also in the US and it didn't go well.

I rather win Copa even in an ugly way... A cup is a Cup. Our only Copa was without Argentina and no one should be ashamed of that (You can only play what is ahead of you).

WC Semis would be a nice story, but only the winners get to enjoy.

Exactly. NO ONE (except for that specific country's fans) really cares about a 4th place spot in a World Cup. I'm not saying I wouldn't love to see Colombia get to semis but I'm hard press to recall all 3rd and 4th spot WC places for the last 4 WCs since 1994.

A copa win would be a TITLE and specially after the 2001 CA which we won was so criticized by many as a watered down Copa (they're kind of right). We've been really close since 2001 but this team is probably the best I've seen in the last 10 years.

FIFA points, even that 4th place WC finish only granted Morocco an extra 10 spots.

At least Sweden played a final and they have been to the top 4 several times. If you want to name a forgotten overachiever, I'm going with a dark one: Bulgaria in 1994.

    They became the new Netherlands.

Being a semifinalist in the WC could be very misleading, as an achievement. It is not uncommon for a 4th place team to have a so-so record and to get to the final on a favorable path and/or via PKs.

Take England in 2018: 2nd in the group phase after Belgium, beat us on PKs after we conceded on a bs PK and a horrible coaching day by Pekerman, then got a win over a mediocre Sweden, then lost both the semifinal and the 3rd place game; their record was 3W-1D-3L and while they scored 12 goals, half of them were against Panama.

Time for the CrzD like metaphor of the day.

To me it is like saying marry a very cute girl next door who is madly in love with you... ... or go on a few dates and eventually engage with a super model only to have her give you back the ring and marry someone else who is richer than you.

I would take the sure thing every time. Girl next door - Copa America Championship.

Look like I am truly in the minority with option B haha. To me I guess it’s because we already won a Copa. I would rather make history on a much larger stage (especially because 26 is in the US).

Out of curiosity, would any of you choose option B if it was to make the world cup final but lose?

    honestly
agree with all this. We have a chance at the big dance every 4 years for Copa America and still fall short. Until we can win and beat the best of the best on the way to lifting the cup I don't think any team will really consider us a contender. Our NT has historically been weak when it comes to showing up for the big games. Maybe we win big at 1 game but then collapse when the stakes are at the highest.
This Copa will have an older Messi but a strong and balanced WC champ Argentina. We have a Brazil that's underachieving but still has the capacity to beat any team in the world and Uruguay that is pound for pound with Bielsa probably be the best team in the tournament.

If we can get past Round 1 play there's a solid chance we'll play all 3 of these big teams. If we win, then I feel we can really believe in this team to go deep, real deep, in the next WC and not think of it as a Cinderella run.

who was the 3rd and 4th best team in 2010 and 2014 or 2006?

    no one cares!!!!

    a trophy is a trophy

in 2014 with Falcao we would have walked backwards to the WC final. Also without the questionable reffing against Brazil

2018 not having James killed us but we lost to England in PKs. That is because our coach was a pssy who didn’t put a attacking mf on the whole game

People act like the best team wins the WC. It’s luck. Or on Argentinas case free pks :)

I currently have him making the cut in my Copa Roster prediction.

Especially since he is good at LCB or RCB and has played RB.
And at Villarreal he has even been positioned at LB and looked pretty good.

Rb* although I think he was playing as a lcb against rayo, or maybe im confusing him lucumi. Anywho those two should be starters for us but in Cuesta is still solid and has more chemistry with lucumi
