La Liga. Guess Lucas wasn't big enough name for them to win Clasico MVP and robbed him.

Been saying for a long time that he has more than earned a renewal to continue to be Dani’s backup.

Short term, 1 or 2 years at wages favorable to the club. His play and his experience are assets for the locker room.

Folks were clamoring for Cancelo. Lucas has been at a higher level for most of this season

Cancelo's being a defensive liability cost Barca many points in first half of the season. RM killed two birds with one stone by not going for him last summer. :D

    1 assist. Winning a penalty doesn't count.

Agreed, and this is why I fear FB’s who are ordinary in most aspects off the ball, no matter their attacking prowess
Agreed, although he may not play a massive role on the pitch, i think LV is invaluable in the squad as a whole, outside the pitch too, he seems to get along well with all the players including making all the newer younger players feel welcome,

I think he plays a big part in the level of camaraderie meshing the Spanish and foreign, older and young players together, I don’t know for sure of course but that’s how it comes across to me and that togetherness is important

It's incredible how averse to meh the reaction was to him returning and how influential he's been over the years. While i do think his commitment and character carried him over rougher patches, on the other hand i do think he has always been willing to sacrifice more than others.

Kind of a case where you can tell young players you casn't all be Ronaldo or Modric, but you can potentially be a Lucas Vazquez.

Yea. Lucas was fairly unknown despite playing in La Liga for Espanyol. Callejon made headlines in his stint there so many were excited when he returned as squad player. Kinda like Fran Garcia at Rayo. Wasn't the case with Lucas.

Brahim Diaz is someone whom folks in this forum liked as Asensio replacement while many on Twitter was moaning so much as if one needs to be superstar at Milan to be squad player at RM.

Absolutely loved Marcelo one of my favourites but as I’ve said before there’s a reason why back in the day people complained about how open that left side was when we didn’t have the ball, and why Coentrao started some big games for us despite Marcelo being available, bottom line i’d say though is , none of the FB’s being discussed now, IMHO, are in Marcelo’s league, so there’s also that to consider, but I get your point.
