    This just in...

We get a second round player for a 2nd round supplemental pick? Not bad.

Well, he was overdrafted - but still looks like a pretty decent return on the pick they've given up, although it is not in Burch's favor that he was Sampson's big catch and Yallop was so quick to ditch him.

He looked okay in the 10 minutes he was on the pitch against RSL last week.

Don't think too much about Yallop dropping him - Frankie's clearing house to make room for his new Canadian buddies.

Plus, if he was listed as a Forward (which I didn't know, I thought he was a midfielder), that would have put him in with

    Gomez
    Wolyniec
Donovan (some of the time, it's not quite clear yet)
Gordon (who also is not long for this world)
    Glen
    Enfield
Kirk (who's also playing mid right now, but. . .)

Well, at least we're trying to find something that works up top.

And here I thought Jimmy Floyd would be our next pick up at forward.

I've never rated Burch much as a forward, but he's a big guy with good feet and decent vision.

We've now got the forward combo that won the College Cup

Jeff W. implied on "the other forum" that there is another announcement to come tomorrow.

    It has to be Coiner.

Sigi has previously talked to him, his club team released him from his contract so he's free to sign before the secondary window opens on August 15, and he's American so they don't have to wait for any Visa issues.

I am about 100% sure it's the Coiner announcement.

Not exactly earthshattering, but still Sigi is doing what he can to address the problem. And, as Fid said, this was a pretty good deal in terms of value, especially considering Burch is listed as a development playeer.

We probably won't have to worry about chemistry up front if we go with the Burch-Garey combo.

On another note, Fid, if Coiner is a slam dunk, who's getting bounced off the roster? The obvious choice is Becerra, but is there a chance one of the bigger fish could get released?

Do we know much about this Coiner? My brief research shows he is in the Regionalliga in Germany, what kind of standard is that (say in comparison to the English leagues)?

Nobody, he'll take the place of one of the "season ending injury" guys. Hejduk, Busch, or Walker.

Also in the Dispatch this morning.

hehe, i just made a post the other day about the two more or less local (if gaven is "local" to new york, when hes really philly, these kids are local to us) kids (burch and pore) in the forwards thread.

    interesting.

honestly ive never seen either play.

as for coiner, i hope that if thomas can come in and be one of the better players, then coiner should as well.

This is my hope as well. And I think the fact that Burch has played extensively with Garey probably made it a little easier to pull the trigger.

Eberson, eh? Anybody know anything about him?

There's actually a Yanks Abroad interview from awhile back done with Ian Joy during which he mentions both Ryan Coiner and Jacob Thomas as being quality American attackers in the Regionalliga. Interesting that both would end up here. Any idea on whether the signings are discoveries or did we use some allocation money??

Burch is a Cincinnati Turpin boy. Where's Eggy when you need him.

Also, according to the Disgrace today, Gaudette is healthy and the indoor soccer guy, whatever his name was, is history.

Can you imagine the previous coach saying this?

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Sigi Schmid again.

Don't forget that Ian Joy also played here, albeit very briefly. IIRC, the Crew cut him loose during preseason.

I believe his name was Dominik Dontletthedoorhityawherethegoodlordsplitya. Tho I could be wrong.

If Gaudette is healthy, that means we should have some real competition for the #1 spot now.

hey, Dom was a nice guy and supposedly a good keeper. Plus, we might want to keep him around, who knows what could happen to our spinal-tap drummer-esque keepers... ;)

It's sad that this has to be said by Sigi - "I don’t know what move will solve our problems," Schmid said. "What will solve them are guys shooting. We were looking at other options, but they dried up. I do think (Coiner) is better in the air than the other forwards that we have, and I know he will shoot."

hell yeah. and maybe he and Garey can start together up top and he can put some wind into Garey's sails. Then start Gaven and Seb as attacking mids, put Virtuoso on the wing, and woo-hoo! Gooooooooooooooaaaaaaaal!
