LMAO, you can hear it in the commentators voices, they were so pissed! They probably punched the air in anger. Emi Martinez saves the pen then dances. He is so unserious man.. 😭😭 https://t.co/PpEJTEpZoG— Conn (@ConnCFC) April 18, 2024
Balerdi had a great game vs Benfica. Although he's slow on the turn for my liking, he has good anticipation and intercepts the ball well. He can also play on both RCB and LCB, so that's a big plus. He's also been linked with Atletico Madrid, their fans do not like Molina (honestly think Simeone needs to change to a back 4) so if Balerdi goes there, hope he does well. One of the candidates to replace Otamendi for me.
Do we really need Cholo to destroy the carrer* of another Argentine? But it does make me wonder why he's been at Marseille for such a long time. Dortmund sold him off for relatively cheap. I am not saying Marseille is a bad club or anything but it seems that his progression has been relatively slow. For example, at 19-20 the Juve scouts liked what they saw from Cuti at Genoa. They bought him and foolish loaned him out to Atalanta with low option to buy(It was basically a wash from what they paid Genoa). He went to Atalanta and by the time he was 22-23 he was voted as the best defender in the Serie A and Atalanta triggered their option to buy. Now, I do not expect every player to make such leaps in such short time or go to some major club but sometimes I do wonder why certain players stick at a single club for so long, particularly if the team is a mid-table team in France or near the bottom in Italy. Maybe scouting is bad or is there something else? It is kinda similar with Medina. Sure, playing in France is fine but he's been linked to a number of clubs for several years but he's still at Lens. Nehuén Pérez is the same. I do not watch Udinese as I did when RDP and Molina were playing for them. But when that deal with Napoli fell apart, some of the Napoli supporters were a bit relieved. Scaloni really needs to figure out what is going to happen after the CA. As much as I like Licha, these injuries are pilling up. We need a backup and will need it very soon. During the U23S and U20s, our weakness, outside of Masche was the backline. It was quite glaring to be honest. Nobody really stood out. Again, it just could be poor management but, even with poor management, a lot of these youngsters had a really bad time reading the game. They were out of position, miss-timed jumps. It just was not pretty. I think Scaloni is a bit concerned in this manner.
Musso beating Liverpool and the "greatest keeper on earth" allisson to advance to the UEFA Europa League semi finals. The actual greatest keeper on earth on his way to the Semi finals of the Europa coference league semi finals. Who just had a recent clean sheet versus Arsenal 2-0 and on his way to secure a spot in the Champions League.
The Olympics are pulling our substition options that we could use in Copa. During the 2008 Olympics this wasn't as problem because copa was the year before. AFA is balancing the quality of players (on the lower end) for a second tournament.
I totally agree with you. After CA, the defensive line is the area that will go under major transformation. For now, I think this is Scaloni's preferred defensive players RB: Molina, Montiel CB: Romero, Otamendi, Lisandro, Pezzella LB: Tagliafico, Acuna - Underlined are the ones who I have no idea what their status will be like after the Copa America (Montiel of his game time and Taglifiaco a little due to age). - Bold are the ones who really should retire internationally after the CA due to age. My preference would be to have one of Perez, Balerdi, Medina or Senesi replacing Pezzella in the CA squad but don't see that happening. Good news is that we have a core of defensive starters with Molina, Romero and possibly Tagliafico and it just a matter of filling in the squad depth to provide competition. Plus, we have 6 WCQ games in fall 2024 and we're in a good spot already to qualify for the WC. It is this time period in which I hope Scaloni tries some new defensive players to ease them to the national team. Maybe have some small training camp in summer 2025 by calling a lot of players and see how they do in training. The likes of Perez, Balerdi, Medina, Senesi and Maffeo should really push to go either to a bigger club where they get minutes and/or better leagues to challenge themselves and improve. If they are signed by another club this summer, I guess a positive for them not attending the national tournaments would be to having pre-season with their new club and hopefully hit the ground running. for the 24/25 season. Doing so will grab Scaloni's attention and make it harder for him to ignore them.
Nico Gonzalez scored in Conference league as Fiorentina advanced to semi. He could possibly face Dibu in final.
...and He doesnt only own France but also Brazil. He has played 3 times against Brazil (Copa final, qualifier twice) and Argentina conceided zero.
and those who complain about goalkeeper celebration is beyond dumb. Lille first kicker even blasted the ball after he failed, yet nobody bat an eye. Di Maria missed his penalty as Benfica lost to Marseille. Dont think its a big deal in larger picture as he has been great form for most of this season, but it is what it is. Meanwhile, Joaquín Correa is in semifinal and he has 0 goal in 16 matches.
Holier than thou? sports fans and the athletes loves to diss each other to hype themselves up, deal with it. "Do they just win the WC?", Neymar on Argentina Finalissima victory celebration.
If we had Dibu during Messi's entire run with the Albiceleste, what is Messi's trophy case for the Albiceleste look like? If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts . . .
Banter and objective analysis of player skills are separate matters for me. I'm usually the first one here to go visit the Brazil sub to piss on them when we win (especially on the being known as "Century's best") but I don't belittle brazilian footballer's quality. It's not that I overrate every brazilian either. Ederson, for example, is considered "world class" by a lot of people but he's just a flashy futsal keeper with great PR to me.
With Chelsea's season practically over, I hope Enzo gets that surgery to ease the Hernia injury that he had for months and prepare for the Copa America

I had two of my cousins this weekend visiting from Argentina. Both are very passionate fans, even for our standards. Neither have ever seen Messi play for a club (only for the Albiceleste in Buenos Aires), so this was a real treat for them; to see Messi play meaningful club game. 7 minutes into the game, Inter Miami conceded a dumb goal and 3 corner kicks. My and my buddy looked over at my cousin and saw weird expressions in their faces. So I asked, "Che, que decis? te crees que a los 18 anos vos podias jugar aqui?" My cousin "Carajo!!, si me traen botines Yo puedo jugar ahora para este club!! de jame de mierda" . . . Thank God, Messi fixes everything and we won.. But both my cousins after the game said that its bad that Messi is playing in a league with such low level b/c it could decrease his quality. Damn. Not what I wanted to hear.
You should’ve taken your cousins to Costco and the Cheesecake Factory to show them what portion size look like in the States or how indulgent Americans really can be…
It's funny 75% of the backline in that game were made of Argentines who played in the primera. Including Busquets top 3 dm of all time who won a world cup and was part of one of the greatest national team ever.
Messi pretty much satisfied with his career after winning the WC, otherwise he wouldnt move there. Everything after WC 2022 is just a sidequest to him. The only problem is he's still playing in NT and playing in very weak league could possibly affects his NT performance. Copa America would be alot more tougher than MLS. However, I believe Messi like Maradona are the two players that could play a backyard football and remains competitive at top level .
