You're welcome. I'm sorry, but I don't really have much experience with trying to get refunds from DB. On my last trip to Germany, I bought a rail pass and thought it would be best to buy seat reservations (especially on trips where I had to take luggage). It was probably 50% to 60% of the time that I actually was able to take the train that I planned on. I'm sure that I was entitled to a refund, but I saw the long line in the Munchen HbF and didn't bother. I would assume it is probably easier online as long as you did not buy one of those Euro 2024 nonrefundable trips.
Actually now it says it can't be refunded because the departure time is not passed yet... i will contact the DB, because it says also that now my tickets could be used on any high speed train, since my connection is not available anymore. I will need more information, but i would much rather get my money back.
Does anyone know is Gelsenkirchen stadium close to the train station? after the Spain Italy match finishes around 11pm, is there still a train to Essen? Is it wise to stay in Essen or are there other better places besides Gelsenkirchen?
You will need to take the tram back into the centre and then get a train. It gets a bit crowded obviously but Essen is very easy from there. I'm heading back to Wuppertal from all 4 venues in NRW after late games. I am not expecting any issues.
No, it's not close. There is a tram that runs from the stadium to the station but after the game, unless you leave early, there's likely to be a wait. It would take around an hour and fifteen minutes or so to walk. There are lots of trains to Essen and the journey will be included in your match ticket.
They've been available for a while. Use this link... https://int.bahn.de/en/buchung/start? Scroll down on the offers page, although you may still find some normal fares are cheaper.
We, too, are staying in Wuppertal but I'm not so confident of getting back after the late games in Gelsenkirchen without leaving before the end of the match. The latest option I have found leaves 00:09, which could be tight if we are on the wrong side of the ground, and invokes 2 changes which could be missed too.
If I am going from Cologne to Dusseldorf on match day, does the 36 hour train pass cover that? or are Cologne and Dusseldorf not considered in the same region?
They are in the same region for the 36 hour pass, so you can stay in Cologne and use your Duesseldorf match ticket to travel between the two on the day of the match.
To add onto that, all four of Cologne, Dusseldorf, Dortmund, and Gelsenkirchen are considered the same region for the 36 hour pass.
I am trying to go from Frankfurt airport to Leipzig markt station using the discounted tickets. Does my search look good? And ‘ice’ I assume is a train and ‘S’ is a bus? Not sure. Thanks
Ice is intercity train and S is likely S-bahn (suburban train). Your search looks fine to me. However, the discounted trains are euro 29,90 but your price is showing as much more. Try searching with the following link to get the discounted offer https://int.bahn.de/en/buchung/start?intern=1#?et=EM2024
Normally, the nonrefundable tickets could be problematic with a tight transfer, but you should be fine since you are taking an S-bahn for the second part and they are always coming.
Just have a question about the differences between the trains. I'll be going from Dusseldorf to the matches in other cities. Can i just use the 36 hour travel pass for that or do i need to get the DB ticket too? Thanks
It won't work on all trains as IC/ICE trains are excluded. It is for regional trains only, which is important to note because those cities will have IC/ICE trains as well.
So would i need to DB ticket too? I would just be looking to take the trains from Dusseldorf to the matches and back.
It's just the high speed ICE trains you'd have to pay for, there will be plenty of free local trains if you're only going to NWR venues.
