This will make 4 years in a row that the first team Captain leaves at the end of the season. Ramos, Marcelo, Benzema, and now Nacho
If true I salute him for his service to the club and hope he goes out with a bang. Much love to Nacho.
Nacho is only missing 2 titles to become Real madrid player with most titles. Now we need to win the double even more. If we the CL this year, we will have 5 with 6 UCL which is like all the UCL that barca won.
I'm really going to miss Nacho. I remember when he first got called up to the first team, and since then, he's been an absolute stalwart at the back. But, as much as it's hard to let go, the timing is right. Staying another season might only tarnish his legacy.
I am implying that Modric is sticking around for a year to be Captain. Pretty sure the order is Nacho, Modric, Carvajal, and then Kroos. I used to have a website with the proper order. After Kroos, I am not sure who is next. No clue how long Carvajal will last at Madrid. He seems to have found the fountain of youth.
I don't think its an official policy at any other club. But in Spain, it seems like the Captain is more often than not the most veteran player.
He isn't clueless. I think he realizes this year has been up and down, and he wants to go out on top. The League is basically wrapped up. Just needs to finish strong and raise those trophies as Captain It is obvious that Nacho will have a future spot with the youth clubs. Literally the prime example of a youth player that has fought over the years to get his spot with the first team.
Valverde is the one with a huge age gap -- he's 25 and everyone senior to him is 32+ (other than Ceballos who is rumored to leave and of course doesn't start). He's probably going to be captain for a long time. You can sort by "Joined" date here: https://www.transfermarkt.us/real-madrid/kader/verein/418/saison_id/2023/plus/1 edit: I think the last time I looked at this I hadn't factored in the possibility that Lunin would become a starter. How does seniority work if they joined the same day?
No, it will be Modric, Carvajal, Kroos, and Lucas. I don't think Modric is leaving if he gets to be Captain for a year. Modric is coming off the bench every game next year and will have to be given the armband each time he enters the field.
You will have to get the paperwork from the league office to see which paperwork was processed first.
I really hope it's Valverde -- nothing against Lunin but I do not like it when the keeper is the captain.
I hope gluten free Carva is good enough to start till he's 35 (2026-27) like Ramos and Benzema. Always thought RB market has been the weakest in football for well over a decade. Hopefully we can find a young prospect in upcoming years. I reckon LV is getting 1 year renewal as back up.
The writing was on the wall the moment he was benched in favor of a defensive mid playing as CB in a Champions League knockout game.
