http://la.galaxy.mlsnet.com/news/te...t_id=138593&vkey=news_lag&fext=.jsp&team=t106 "One new face joined Galaxy camp over the weekend as 2007 USL First Division Rookie of the Year Jay Needham arrived in Los Angeles. The Texas native played for the Puerto Rico Islanders in 2007 after being selected by D.C. United in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft. A central defender who is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, Needham played four years at SMU and was named a finalist for the Hermann Trophy as a senior in 2006, one year after he helped lead SMU to the College Cup"
Don't we still own his "rights." If so, maybe we can make another trade for something. Even with the extra DP option we got for Gomez's "rights," I still think they are an absolute joke. That doesn't mean of course, that we shouldn't jack up their worth while we've got them.
Of course, if Peralta's "personal issues" turn out to be a big problem, we might need to bring Jay in for our own defense.
I think this is a perfect opportunity to mess with Alexi.... KP: Sure thing, Lexi, I've got Zack drafting that fax to MLS HQ releasing Needham. Top of his list. *hangs up* SZ: Just like you said boss, top of my list of things to do once Red Bull wins something.
Where do you get that he's been there for a week? LA says Needham got there just this past weekend, while Goff announced just today that he'd been cleared to work out with LA.
Buzz (3rdDegree) reported on it last week. I'm saying it's been known for a week that he would be training with them.
Known to people who frequent Buzz Carrick's website -- which is probably less than 10% of the folks who regularly read this forum. Unless it was posted here and discussed in an earlier thread, in which case we all missed it, and we beg your apology.
I'm just kinda surprised is all. It'd be like not knowing Ricky Schramm is training with NY simply because you don't read SBI. I figured the in-depth MLS team blogs/websites are so limited that everyone would have at least frequented most of them at some point during the week.
Some of us actually have a life that doesn't include reading every national soccer blog. Like Bootsy said, it wasn't brought up here. To say that it was in a blog that is primarily about FC Dallas as a reason that people shouldn't be talking about it here, is not in touch with reality. This is a DC United site. The primary qualification for posting in this site is interest in DC United, not an obsession about anything to do with American soccer. If you want to contribute to the DC United site with information that you found in other places, great. But to criticize people if they are not scouring all of the national blogs is stupid. I actually contribute to society in a meaningful and time consuming way. I have personal life that is important. I don't have the interest, at this point in my life, to read all of the national blogs about soccer in general, and yet, because I was formally trained both as a player and a coach, because I had many years experience in the game, because I have followed DC United primarily since I quit coaching many years ago, I still have something to offer a DC United message board. Other posters have their own reasons for posting and bring other perspectives to the table. It is obvious from your previous posts that you are a big fan of the game, but the post above doesn't show a lot of personal perspective. Thankfully, if you continue to add details, others can add perspective (which is what this thread is about), and between all of us, we can have a forum that includes the best of all worlds. The key is in respecting what others bring to the table. I think that you have something to learn in that regard.
Typical LA stupidity, as they would not only have to pay off DC United for his MLS rights, but pay Puerto Rico (a lot) to get them to sign off on the deal too. I'm not knocking Needham, but he's probably going to be fairly expensive (for what they get) as a result. But then again, we are talking about LA, which seem to operate under a different financial reality than the rest of MLS I'm sure KP already got the phone call from the "Commish" telling him to help Alexi so that Beckham would not have an early offseason again.
I'm here for the beer. I hope, if we still have "MLS rights" to Needham, the trade involves MLS supplying additional kegs in Lot 8, or at least retaining the Guinness and other premium beer taps at RFK that the national brought with them... And it was news to me. I like Buzz Carrick and what he writes, but I don't have 3rd degree bookmarked.
