I hope the new Watford coach comes in and show FC how things are really done. Or he can just sit back and laugh....
I don't expect him to bring anything significantly new to the club. FC is still in charge of how things go and has the final say. That's no to say he can't help, of course. I just think it's downright stupid to think that since we got another assistant coach things will be markedly different. I'm interested in finding out what exactly the other guy will do.
I agree with scheck that with Clavijo still calling the shots the other coaches hands will be tied somewhat, but still getting somebody with this experience is a good move. We know that Sommer played for Clavijo at NE, any know what their relationship is like? Is this another friend helping a friend or will Sommer be willing to pressure Clavijo and/or Plush if necessary?
On the pitch, how things are done at Watford is certainly not the way we want them done with the Rapids. Watford's style and quality is very low. It simulates AYSO kick and run! On the other hand, he may have some useful dietary and training ideas that are worth implementing! By the way, what happened to the assistant coach coming from Arsenal. Now that would be someone worth listening to.
Obviously after spending our cash on Mr Gomez we could not afford anyone with any Stockport County ties Well, I'll hope he does well anyway - not that anyone above him will be listening, sigh. Does he have any ties to Spencer ;-) Jeff
"In 1995, he became the first American goalkeeper to play in the English Premier League when he suited up for Queens Park Rangers." In a way, amazing how much things changed in about a decade's time. We went from getting all excited over this or that Harkes or Cobi were actually playing in England to expecting our young talent to not ust get to Europe but start + vets like Freidel seeiming to have been at Blackburn forever. Is this a better move by the FO for a technical director than Chris Henderson?
I've always wondered just how in control FC is of the team. Sometimes I get the feeling (just a feeling) that there are outside influences, like Lacrossee enthuasiasts and Khaki panted pencil pushers at work over in Com City. Or maybe it just poor judgemnt on FCs. I think this is a good move on the side of the Rapids that they are thinking more soccer (wierd). They better, b/c from what I can tell we need alll the help we can get with the other teams in the league improving a lot. I think Houston is going to be a major contender once again, LA is not goin to be last years LA that's for sure, DC even better then last and the FIre are going to bring it again with Blanco.
Check that, only one of these hires reported for duty. I guess Jurgen Sommer had a change of heart. I have thrown my hat into the ring. We'll see what happens.
Wow. I wonder what the tabloids and rumor mill will produce with this one. Was he unhappy with the organization? Did he even make the trek to colorado?
+1!! Ouch - not exactly the kind of news I'd like to hear less than 2 weeks before the openning whistle. But hey, props to the FO for hiring a TD in the first place. Here's to hoping they find the right guy for the job who WANTS TO BE HERE and knows how to help this franchise succeed (Bonji???)
I'll be your most ardent (and vocal) supporter if you promise to bring me in as a lowly paid "advisor"!
I think posting on Bigsoccer, maintaining your blog, and guesting on FTP are the best uses of your talents. I'd hate to see you get dragged down in Rapidsland.
All I know is, working for a professional soccer franchise, especially the one I put all my passion into, would be a dream come true - being in a position that actually influences the squad...well...talk about some sweet. sweet icing on that bad-azz cake! I can completely understand why Bonji would even jokingly suggest getting a job like this. Personally, I can't imagine anything cooler than having your paid job be to help the Rapids win.
How do you think FC got the job? Bonji, I'll be your advisor for just the price of a CVI season ticket and an open tab at the mini-doughnuts stand.
