He chose Germany as an opportunistic move. His market value is much higher (=more cash) and he gets to play in the big tourneys for titles. The only thing that makes him an idiot was to make it public. Dont try to make a "two hearts in one chest" thing out of it

Not even mentioning Gündogan is currently planning to build a shopping mall in the birth town of his family and in Turkey "support" from very high circles is always needed when you intend to do that. So basically he sold his German NT career on the altar for even more profits. Sorry but thats just disgusting and inexcusable

It would be fun in an open match, but...even though I've called LeGo our Pogba since I first watched him play for Bochum against my eiserne at the alte forsterei...I worry that he takes too long on the ball to make decisions for us to start in matches where our opponents will park the bus against us. Love him as a joker for those types of matches, and if we had an african team in the group I'd start him in that one; but I worry that him needing to take a second on the ball would let teams isolate him with their pressing like they could Can.

...lowkey, I'd love to see Leon tried as a supporting forward in the mold of Stindl or Müller, but that seems neither here nor there for now.

Tend to agree, the issue wasn't so much that they posed with Erdogan, it's just that he's turning Turkey into a dictatorship and is hostile to Germany. I don't know if both he and Mesut were being politically naive or got talked into it somehow. I believe the embarrassment for the German NT was not that they were associated with the leader of a country that they had ethnic ties to, but what that leader represented.
    /rant on
Pissed off cause I couldn't find a stream to watch the game (thanks for the proxy tip but it didn't work with the streams I tried). WTF does the premier soccer channel I pay good money for just show England NT games? /rant off

Feels good knowing there is just one German team with 22 players and 2 coaches so we basically won 3-0 today

I really worry about the future of national team, the gap between the current golden generation and the youngsters are just big

OT but I'd be curious to see an actual financial analysis of this done to see how much more he actually earned from that. Because it's not like Nuri Sahin didn't get a big money (for the time) move to the biggest leagues & teams with a very similar resume to Ilkay's just because he selected Turkey instead of us...and I wonder if he didn't get more advertising work out of picking Turkey where he could be one of their big superstars, rather than a rotational/bench guy for us...as even at his best Nuri was never as good as Ilkay. So it would seem like for a player already in starring for a bigger BuLi team, that extra exposure may not be all that influential on their careers...but that's just a single comparison that still isn't that great a parallel.

Anyways I'm not saying that I don't think that his career was probably the reason why he picked our NT rather than some immense sense of patriotic duty...but again that's not unique to Ilkay. Unless you're going to chastize Klose & Podolski for being too money-grubbing to represent Poland as well...cause, I mean, Poldi never even bothered to learn how to speak german :p

Could I build a new shopping mall in Köpenik, right across the street from the forum, without support in some high circles of Berlin & german politics?

I tend to think Mesut was being a little naive and felt pressured to do it so that he wouldn't be seen by some turko-germans as an Uncle Tom in comparison to Ilkay...who I think was intentionally being political because he's an idiot and supports the type of BS that I went into a little more detail in when I edited that posted you quoted, after you had already quoted it lol.

I actually don't mind people jeering Ilkay for that, I am just irked by the "un-german" arguments and the calls for him to bounced from the NT that have been silent with white-german NTers. That people jeer him for his stupid statement, not his german-ness, is all ask.

and check your PMs in a few minutes.

Lol when has there been silence with white-german NTers? WTF???? Ive brought several examples when much less was enough to get bounced. Kruse gambling and Großkreutz flying home to Germany every weekend from Istanbul. So thats DFB doubling down on the bigotry of the situation

Kruse & Grosskreutz were kicked out because Jogi didn't want their personalities in the locker-room, not for political comments; Grosskreutz cause he's an absolute moron in both word & deed, and Kruse cause he's not the most tactful communicator & because he's able to be a star while partying as hard as he does.

If you wanted a white NTer who may have been banished for his comments, Kramer is the closest you get, but what ended his time in Jogi's plans is debatable...though I'd agree that his personality & open-ness with the press was a big part of it.

BS the official statement read in the case of Großkreutz he was "not showing enough will to integrate in Turkey". That it would stand against DFB values. Well, whats up then with what Gündogan and Özil did in regards to integration?

If hypocrisy was uranium they could power the planet.

All of this is hopeless trying to excuse the inexcusable. The announcer said it was Austrian fans booing Gündogan lol. Yeah but why only him then? Hilarious

the older generation have decades of experience. The young guns just need more time and time to get fully and properly integrated. A lot of them make NT squads at an irregular pace.

Was that really the official statement? lol that's pathetic, the DFB really is a comedy of errors when it comes to trying to avoid any hint of controversy :ROFLMAO:

And I mute the commentators so didn't hear that, but that's equally as absurd. I won't defend that stupidity either, but that's on the announcer, not the DFB's PR department being just the worst at handling "scandals" as well as scandals.

Having watched Goretzka recently I dont think he has the same issues you worry about. Of course he can improve.

Its a shame that Jupp or Tüchel are not at Bayern. I think Leo could be moulded by one of them to be the next Ballack.

I'll admit that he made a lot of progress in this under tedesco, but he still takes an extra touch that some of our other brilliantly talented young midfielders like Dahoud, Geiger, Weigl, and to a bit lesser extent Amiri & Meyer, don't need...and a couple more touches that Ilkay, Toni, Mesut, Mats & Boa don't.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned Can because it's no where near as bad as it was with Can or the Bender bros, but I just worry if he won't be a weak point that teams can isolate with their pressing when we have a lot of the ball.

As for Bayern, I'm convinced that Kovac was only hired so that they can trick Jupp into coming out of retirement one last time, before they finally quit putzing around & give the job to Nagelsmann...either that or they're trying to lose the league to someone else to make the BuLi title look more competitive when they negotiate the next tv-rights deal. Those are the only two explanations for the hiring that make any sense to me and don't involve Hoeneß being such an arrogant twat that he's decided that he just wants one of his buddies from inside-the-family to coach the team...which worked great with Ancelotti...

better now than at the WC.
JOACHIM LÖW: It’s a frustrating defeat because we didn’t implement a lot of what we had talked about. We played decent football at times in the first half, but then we just stopped clicking. We allowed Austria to put in crosses and get shots away. There’s a lot to digest.

Quoting the most right winged paper of the generally right winged orientated Axel-Springer group does not proof your point. There were several occasional whistles but only in the beginning, didn't hear any after Özil's goal for the rest of the match.

Dont shoot the messenger. There are enough other news outlets reporting on this.

"Even after the goal Özil was whistled."
    https://www.express.de/sport/fussba...ei-jeder-ballberuehrung-ausgepfiffen-30556824
"Whistles against Özil despite goal and jubilee"
    https://www.eurosport.de/fussball/f...hland-gegen-osterreich_sto6787695/story.shtml

Apart from that is your argument factually wrong with Springer publishing der Spiegel and other lefty stuff as well
