First bit of news gleaned from the first episode of ExtraTime this year. ET will be returning to an audio only format. As a listener primarily at work or in the car, I definitely was a podcast first consumer, so I won't miss the video. Wonder if this makes their release schedule better (the had to submit episodes ~24 hrs in advance which limited their midweek coverage). Also, many of the hosts will probably be involved in some form or another for match day coverage and previews.
Season ticket holders have received information about the perks attached to their ticket membership:1. Actually.... they're not... https://www.tmonews.com/2024/01/t-m...:text=Don't worry, T-,have access to this app. Don’t worry, T-Mobile’s Tuesdays rewards program is not going away. It will simply be included in this app. Both T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile subscribers will have access to this app.
Interesting. Granted, it's been really bad for months with nothing but coupons to crappy restaurants and things like that, but it seemed like this was the time to just kill it off.

Peacock’s Chiefs-Dolphins broadcast drew 23 million viewers, becoming most-streamed NFL game ever https://theathletic.com/5202542/202...g-chiefs-dolphins-wild-card-record-streaming/ An NFL playoff game will stream on NBC’s Peacock. Is this football’s future? https://theathletic.com/5169841/2024/01/05/nfl-nbc-peacock-playoff-game/ It’s the second Peacock exclusive game in less than a month — and it certainly won’t be the last streaming-only NFL game over the next decade. Peacock’s first exclusive NFL game, which saw the Buffalo Bills defeat the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 23, averaged 7.3 million viewers based on Nielsen fast nationals. It was the most watched program on that day, which is usually the case for NFL live-game inventory. The game peaked at an average of 8.4 million viewers from 10:45-11 p.m. ET during the NFL’s first-ever commercial-free fourth quarter. For context, that number was significantly lower than the average Amazon Prime NFL broadcast in 2023. “Thursday Night Football” averaged 11.86 million viewers in 2023, up 24 percent from 2021 (9.58 million) thanks to a much better schedule than previous years. NFL in advanced talks with ESPN to acquire equity stake in network: Sources https://theathletic.com/5199825/2024/01/13/nfl-espn-equity-stake-redzone-network/ Disney chief Bob Iger has been very public about finding strategic partners for ESPN as the company runs its parallel path on balancing declines in cable subs with big increases to ESPN+ and a growing direct-to-consumer business. Adding NFL Media properties such as the NFL Network and NFL RedZone into the Disney universe would provide significant additive value for Disney/ESPN subscribers and users.
Last year's Saturday night NFL Wild Card game was the Chargers at the Jaguars, on NBC. Not the same cache as the Chiefs, but still a playoff game in the same timeslot. It drew 20.61m viewers, lower than the other 5 games that round but also lower than what Peacock got this time around. https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2022-nfl-ratings-archived/
I just got an email that my MLS SP will auto-renew on Feb.14 for $99. Last year I somehow got some $79 deal somehow (maybe because I did a 3-mo free trial of ATV+ from within Roku? I can't remember) Which leads me to ask, what if anything are ways to get a cheaper price on an annual subscription to MLS SP? Would the ATV+ trial work again? And if so are they doing that $79 price when you buy SP after being on ATV+? Or is there some other easier/better way? (I'm not a T-Mobile or Comcast customer)
I believe that discounted price was for Apple TV+ subscribers, because that's what I paid as well. Not sure if the option is there again this year because I turned off auto renew and haven't gotten anything from them yet. I'm on T-Mobile now, so I'm waiting to see if it's free that way this year before considering buying it.
The $79 deal was for Apple TV+ subscribers, and it didn't matter if it was a free trial or if you canceled after one month. If that price is available again, you'll probably need to turn off the auto-renew. If you can't get another free trial, $79 plus one month of ATV+ is still a discount on the full price.
Yes, last year I had the 3-month free trial of ATV+, so got MLS-SP for $79. I half-expected they would charge me the other $20 when I cancelled ATV+, but they didn't. I don't think I can get another free trial (at least without starting a new account), so I will probably pay for 1 month of ATV+ to get the discount again.
I expect to pay for a month or two ATV+, I don’t mind, it’s got some good shows. Thx for the reminder to turn off auto renew on league pass though.
One thing I noticed with the new MLS innovation startup was a company that could instantly translate language using the person's voice. Imagine how that would change everything for a world wide audience.
Amazon has bought a minority stake in bankrupt RSN broadcaster Bally Sports. Games for teams on Bally's rather large network of RSNs will now be shown on Amazon Prime. Big news this morning that Amazon is acquiring a minority stake in Diamond Sports Group. The regional sports network filed for bankruptcy last year, putting local media rights for 37 teams across the NBA, MLB, and NHL in jeopardy. Now, customers can watch games on Amazon Prime. pic.twitter.com/959nnLRyCO— Joe Pompliano (@JoePompliano) January 17, 2024
So is it a fact that the $79 price for MLS SP still exists for ATV+ subscribers? in 2024? And if so, then I should be able to use my current ATV account as long as a re-up it for ATV+? (this account used to have ATV+ but then I downgraded it to regular ATV in 2023 after the trial ran out)
I have not seen anything in writing. If they are carrying over the regular price, I am assuming they are carrying over the ATV+ discount, but can't say for sure.
