Um, not really. Brazil just fell apart under the pressure.

    And the us didn't.

I get that you really don't like JK and many of your criticism are valid but, c'mon.

No loss feels good. Let's improve our mentality and approach to the game over the next four years.

We are watching the culmination of the transformation of Germany, which was initiated by Oberst Klinsman.

I'm glad we have a BOSS with giant balls, unafraid of challenging our entire system, cutting slackers, and causing much weeping and gnashing of teeth on BS.

Well, I cite myself as a primary authority, me being a card carrying member of the BS intelligentsia.

But, if you want crap written by others, fine: http://bit.ly/VWbeIy

Challenging our entire system is one thing, and maybe I'm just gun-shy after our long history of coaches terrified about what might be said about them in that hive of scum and villiany, the USA Men forum... but are you sure Klinsmann is unafraid of causing much weeping and gnashing of teeth on BigSoccer? Let's not jump to conclusions.

They fell apart by engaging in a lot of ball watching and ceding the midfield. The US ceded the midfield, but Besler, Cameron, and Gonzo didn't simply fail to move faster than a walk to let in goals except a couple of times.

If felt like I was watching the second Portugal goal on reruns over and over. No one moving, no one picking up the man.

Agreed. He's the best coach we've ever had. The next four years will be a lot of fun.

People still think Klinsmann was entirely responsible for this current German team? He brought in younger players to fade out their old guard so this means he did all the work the youth clubs did around Germany? We are seriously trying to convince ourselves that we're better than Brazil because we only lost 1-0 to this German team?

Please look at the opinion of a majority of Germans. They admire and respect him as a player, he's a legend. But as a coach it's a less than spectacular view.

Now semi-related. MLSsoccer.com had a piece about comparing current Germany team to USA in 20 yrs. Our beloved Simon Borg.

here is a quote from that piece

"The US already have the relentless part down pat and now they need more elite athletes (a la LeBron James). The ball part will come along (the Major League Soccer academies will help with that)."

No, you were being typically, maddeningly, efficient Germany, why waste effort at that point, get the required result, and move on.

I don't know. I think the way Brazil played yesterday was far worse than what we did in the 10 seconds leading up to the second Portugal goal. There's no comparison. What Brazil did for about 60-70 minutes of that match was an absolute embarassment to the game, to be quite honest. In the semifinal of a World Cup, on their home soil, they had absolutely no clue what they were doing, so they rolled over and died 24 minutes into it.

That said, Germany took full advantage and ripped them apart, and it would have been worse but there was no reason to continue to go for it. Full credit to them for that.

Actually, watch it again. except for that seven minute span when every bounce and every pass fell Germany's way, Brazil was pushing (understandably) from minute 40 on. However, that seven minute span involved a lot of Brazilian defenders ball watching and walking, not running, to keep their marks. That's what I meant by a rerun of the Portugal goal, when practically the entire team was in the wrong spot and Gonzo wasn't paying attention to who was behind him. Neuer was certainly busy in the second half.

My take is that Brazil were a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. Yes, they gave Neuer some work to do in the second half, but Germany was able to just sit back and take it so as not to expend too much energy, then hit Brazil on the counter and bag a couple more goals (which they did easily). Germany had time and space all over the field during the vast majority of the game, and that wasn't simply down to Brazil pushing higher up the field (Brazilian lethargy and German efficiency were big players). It was one of the most naive performances I've ever seen at a reasonably high level - it really was disgraceful.

We gave up about 10 big chances (or 15 w/e) vs. Belgium - granted not in the first 45 mins (only two or three). Yet people seem to think we did know what we were doing.

"He was the first coach to place his trust in a very young generation, and in that respect he was a breath of fresh air for the DFB," Mertesacker told the German federation's official website. "We’re still continuing what Jurgen started, even now. Many of the same players from back then are still in the team, and [current manager] Jogi Low has developed over time too. We’re definitely still influenced by that period, so it’ll make the match against him and the USA very special."

the jurgen haters and their logic absolutely slay me. I guess this is BS and people are entitled to their opinions, but I just can not wrap my mind around the thought that JK has been bad for the national team or that his performance at the WC was poor.

sure, there are some mistakes (maybe LD not in, maybe Cameron over Beckerman vs Belgium, etc) but overall he got his tactics spot on and put the us in really good positions to succeed. He brought in fresh faces and look at our players stock values b/c of or enhanced by WC performance: besler, yedlin, Johnson, others could be mentioned.

point is, JK has done really well. If you want to bring in someone new....fine, I am all for the right guy. I asked In a previous thread and will ask again...who replaces him? you dont fire a guy unless he has been BAD or you have someone you know will do better. have either of those conditions been met? I say neither have.
