hey any tourney a team needs a core of around 15/16 players to be able to win a tourney ... So its egal who should eb in the first 11 actually we need all of the players above Gundo, Muller, Sane, Furigch Fulkrug etc... Currently that core consist of : and no one should think we dont need this player or that players , and due t up 5 substitutions i would actually increase this number to around 17/18 Neuer/MTS Tah Anton Rudiger Kimmich Mittelstadt Heinrichs Andrich Gross Kroos Gundo Wirtz Musiala Sane Muller Havertz Fuhrich Fulkrug If they start or come of the bench or play a single game only due to suspension or injury, we need all o f the above in a tourney
I agree. Nagelsmann is finally picking a balanced side and it is strange to me that after great defensive performances, posters now want to remove the most positionally disciplined midfielder and replace him with a winger? IMO Nagelsmann will correctly choose between Wirtz, Musiala, Havertz, Fullkrug and Sané depending on need. Against stronger teams like France, I would not expect Sane or Fullkrug to start. Against teams that bunker, I would expect Fullkrug to start over Havertz Similarly he might sub out Gundo later in games, and move Wirtz back there. But Wirtz/JM do not have the international experience Gundo & Kroos have to start in midfield IMO
Pfft He's been one of Germany's most reliable players. Which is why all the managers keep picking him
I must admit for the first time in many years this is since Loew and Flick era , that Germany has an actual team, I mean we never knew who would be picked and who would start or even get subbed in , we never had a backline or a set midfield. really this is the first time since maybe even as far back as 2014 where we have a core team. For once our backline is fixed Kimmich, Tah and Ruediger and would assume Mittelstadt Our team is built around Kroos - very clear and it is very clear he will get support from a DM Our attacking players with some minor variations is set Nagelsmann said in his interview that the team he has now will be picked for the Euros, with possible only 2 or so changes and if any injuries or some one really fall out of form. Meaning his team is set , and who ever wants to get in has to fight hard for that spot really when last have we had such a clear cut team
It's worth remembering the reason why Germany went home early from the world cup was nothing to do with Fullkrug and everything to do with conceding 2 goals vs Japan after Flick subbed out Gundo because reasons. I really like the increased defensive stability of this team
Goretzka was the reason or? Unless he can get back to his old level, I believe his career in the NT (and Bayern) may soon come to an end
-TV ratings 10.81 MILLION TUNE IN FOR THE INTERNATIONAL MATCH The victory of the German national team against the Netherlands brought high ratings to the television station RTL. According to the Cologne broadcaster, the 2-1 on Tuesday evening was watched by an average of 10.81 million viewers. The market share was 41.0 percent. For RTL, it was the most successful broadcast of an international match since March 2019. -Nagelsmann interview Question: Julian Nagelsmann, what did you say to the team in the dressing room? Julian Nagelsmann: First and foremost, the ten days from A to Z were a lot of fun. The group did really, really well, they have a very good relationship with each other, but also brutal ambition. We already had a good feeling against France. And again today. Question: What did you particularly like? What insights do you take away with you? Nagelsmann: What we did exceptionally well was defending deep with incredible activity. We won a lot of the ball. Of course, the game can tip in either direction in the end. I'm not a huge statistics fan, but from the numbers it was deserved in the end. This is an outstanding game to analyze.. Question: How do you assess the new EM mood? Is it good to finally get people involved? Nagelsmann: We made the stadium really hot at the end. We really wanted to win and took more risks than our opponents, I didn't have that feeling in Austria, for example. The spirit felt very different than it did in November. We hope that it will also mesh from the end of May to mid-July. Question: Maximilian Mittelstädt made the mistake before the score was 0-1, but he also scored a goal. How did you like his performance? Nagelsmann: Outstanding. The best thing is: He's a completely normal guy, an incredibly nice guy, always very friendly. He plays the first game, and he plays the first game very well. What was interesting to me was how he performed afterwards: at breakfast on Sunday, in training, at the next game. He makes a mistake here, goes forward and thunders the thing into the corner from 18 meters. The mistake happens, but the reaction is the most important marker, and he handled it brilliantly. Now he has to carry on and listen to Sebastian Hoeneß, then I'm confident that he'll be able to dribble like this again in the summer. Question: Leroy Sane was in the stadium. Have you already had the opportunity to speak to him in peace? Do Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala now have a different role than him? Nagelsmann: He has the role of the others up front because he is exceptionally good. I'll go out to dinner with him in Munich, we've already agreed on that. He is an extremely good player, but he has to fit into the functioning group like any other player. He will put his qualities 100 percent at the service of the team and we will not forego these qualities under any circumstances. Question: What have these days done to you? What is your message to everyone who wasn't there? Nagelsmann: I'm happy that things worked well with the team. It wasn't nice to see the staff in Austria who have been getting picked on again and again for years. Anyone who wasn't there has to give it their all - and be better than those who were there. We definitely won't trade ten or five players in the summer, that's for sure. Maybe one or two if no one gets hurt.
Julian Nagelsmann spoke to Timo Werner before the squad announcement for the last games to inform him of his decision not to call him up, but also to tell him that the door was not completely closed for the Euros. Nagelsmann, who has a close relationship with Werner, told the player that he can still make it for the tournament if he performs at Tottenham in the coming weeks. Correct. Post Euros, I presume kroos Gundogan would have retired, a double pivot of pavlovic and Gross will be the way forward for the world cup.
What was really great about these matches were that we looked like we had a proper plan that the players understood, kept a consistent line up and were motivated to get the wins. No tinkering, nothing too complicated and overall a lot more stable. Even going behind saw a positive reaction. Of course not everything is perfect, but finally we look like making progress. I like the way that we have mainly picked a team of players that are in form for their clubs, you can see many have that extra edge that comes with that confidence plus utilising a system that gives a platform to Musiala & Wirtz is clearly the right way to go. Bringing Kroos back looks like an inspired move, the guy is a different level when it comes to dictating play. Plus he takes good corners. This in turn has led to a mood shift from the public, many people are already more hyped and have Major Tom on their playlists already lol. Let's hope this is a sign of things to come in the summer.
I'd like to think that after the disastrous friendlies vs Turkey and Austria, Völler gave Nagelsmann a stern talking-to and Nagelsmann has had to rein in his impulsiveness. Also I'd much rather refer to the song by its original title: Völlig losgelöst.
Nagelsmann knew he had limited time for tinkering. He did it and it didn't work. He moved on. This isn't that complicated. No one called anyone saying, "Stop it".
Or maybe Naiglesman used Vollers tactics as the blue print for his own phylosophy. All in all, these games have proven, the personnel and quality is there. I still do think Fullkrug should be the focal point of the attack.
Admittedly, I did not consider the defensive pressing of Havertz as a major factor. I'll have to consider that more deeply.
Marin>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Argentinian Draxler Wirtz most recently in “Spiegel”: “My big idol was Marko Marin, I had a Werder jersey with his name on the back. I was fascinated by his dribbling and his goal threat. I could identify with him on that point.” Marin, who played 16 international matches for the DFB: “I was happy to hear something like that from Flo. It's nice to know that little boys admired my game back then." And adds with a laugh: "But from now on he'll have to look for another role model; he's long since surpassed me with his quality." Marin: “I'm impressed that he wants to have every ball and is always looking for the vertical pass. And of course his wit. This lobbed goal in the Euro League against Qarabağ Ağdam is normal for him. It looks easy, but I know what enormous technology is required.”
I also fascinated with the dutch’s formation. Tactically, they’re better than the German but lack quality up front also German’s goals were both from corner kick which never happen with Kimmich as corner taker. For Holland, they use back 3 some time switch to back 5 with both wing drop and some time play 4–4-2 defending even 4-2-2-2 (Brighton) for pressing they press very well. The German is hardly having any clear cut chance until they take out Gundogun and Havertz and bring in Fullkrug and the stuttgart wingers for direct attacking football.
Thanks for your insights. Good old Beckenbauer long time ago in an interview said that if he had the chance/time to watch Dutch clubs play, he never would skipp it, as he was interested and curious about what he would see tactically, regardless what level (I guess he ment pro level) the clubs were playing.
Hard not to be excited about the last 2 results. Conceding 1 goal against France and the Netherlands was a nice surprise. Nagelsmann finally balanced the midfield and it worked. Crazy how it takes these “professionals” forever to figure out something we have been saying on here forever… Also Fullkrug > Havertz as Germanys number 9
11 - Niclas Füllkrug has scored 11 goals in his first 15 international matches - since the beginning of the 1980s, only Miroslav Klose (13) and Serge Gnabry (14) scored more goals in their first 15 senior appearances for Germany. Quote-king. pic.twitter.com/9HPBiTzPlQ— OptaFranz (@OptaFranz) March 27, 2024 what's significant about this is that Klose+Gnabry were basically XI in every match vs only 6 XIs for Fullkrug.........
F.Nmecha in his 1st XI for Dortmund since early November only recently back from injury. Glad to see him back, although might be too late for Euro.
