Based on the what the team needs and how Southgate usually picks his squads it stands to reason that Toney will go and Watkins will not... but then Southgate keeps picking and playing Watkins as if he were second choice. It's odd.

Short but top cameo from Maddison. Definitely has the potential to be a difference maker for us. Feel like him and Jude would link really well together if they got more time in the same XI.

Rashford isn’t playing well but he still has that X factor that justifies his inclusion IMO. Don’t think there’s any point in taking Watkins

He might be too young but Mainoo solves many problems. Allows Southgate to play 2 DM and get the defensive security he’s obsessed about, but also has the ability to turn and play forward under pressure that the Foden / Bellingham/ Maddison normally bring. Makes us much more balanced in midfield and should allow us to dominate about every single team.

Southgate has said some coaches want the squad limit back to 26. I can’t see UEFA changing their mind this late. He has also suggested that Palmer, Gordon and Bowen might be ahead of Rashford and Grealish.

With Southgate when he doesn’t really praise a player it’s a sign he is not happy with him. And it’s not the first time recently praise towards Rashford has been lacking from him. I was thinking he was more likely than Grealish but yesterdays comments maybe point to Grealish being more likely than Rashford,

Also Southgate has suggested he himself now back possibly going back to 26 man squads

Marc Guehi is now also a fitness doubt for the Euros as his return for Crystal Palace might be as late as the start of May.

For me, it’s open,” Southgate insisted. “I have absolutely no issue. It’s really for Ben now. Dec is obviously in a difficult situation; you’re asking him about a team-mate and he’s going to be careful. The door is open for us. That’s clearly difficult ahead of the Euros, where [White] missed the qualifying campaign and you’ve got players that have played all the way through.’’ So that’s a no, rightly so.

Southgate’s Likely Lads according to Henry Winter.

No reason not to permanently have 26-man squads in this day and age. Injuries and burnout are at an all-time high and that's pretty much going to be the state of the modern game for the foreseeable so do what you can to curtail it.

That would make every interview feel like the person had joined a cult. Constant praise for all is required in discourse.

It is all just massive jumping to conclusions and almost conspiracy theory like logic based on very little. Not even talking about you. More focused on the media of numerous outlets.

I'd like Grealish to go, he offers something different and is great at slowing play down and winning tactical fouls, keeping possession, totally different to other players we have. I also would love Madison to get more minutes, he seems at home in an England shirt and would start for most other international teams.

I'd like to see rashford and Grealish go. They're both proven tournaments players. We can't go with 10 tournament debutants. I'd still like to see palmer there

As much as I like Palmer, I don’t think he offers something that the Foden Bellingham Maddison don’t. Grealish and Rashford must go IMO, as they’re both wingers. Rashford can even play upfront if needed.

Are we all agreed that mainoo will definitely go to the Euros. I can't image the backlash if Southgate didn't take him after his performance against Belgium. I remember Grealish's inclusion at the last Euros.

Flexibility will be key.... With possible injurys....... Players which will perform in multiple positions is what you want

See last WC france.... Camavinga even played LB ( he also did sometimes at Real Madrid).... Also griezmann as center mid

Jack Grealish should be on the plane for sure. That ability to hold onto the ball, drag the whole team up the pitch and dictate the rhythm of a game is priceless in international football. The idea that you can go from being a vital cog in a treble winning machine to a Euro no-go overnight just doesn't add up for me.

You’re correct and flexibility is important but it’s also important to have the right balance otherwise you could end up with many players that are Jack of all trades, masters of none and if you’re aiming to win then I think you need more specialists than Jacks in my opinion.

Southgate might want to add one or two multi-disciplinary players like Joe Gomez or Cole Palmer. But we already have plenty of first choicers in the squad who can play a variety of roles (Stones, Trippier, Foden, Maddison, Rashford etc), without having to weaken the quality of the final 23 by making versatility the major driver.
