Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stressed that Hurricane Helene magnified the importance of a deal. Labor Secretary Julie Su expressed optimism that the union would agree to a temporary extension if raises were included.”

“And then, in a surprising move, as the call was wrapping up, Zients told the board members of the United States Maritime Alliance that he was going to tell Biden in about an hour that they had agreed to propose a new offer to the union. By that point, the shipping executives had agreed to do no such thing. Zients was saying they would.”

Said Zients: “I need the offer today — not tomorrow. Today. I’m going to brief the president in an hour that you believe you can get this done today.”

Just to be explicit, those people who have no morals whatsoever are conservative Christians. I repeat, the people they are aiming the deceitful message at are conservative Christians. • Woodward writes that Biden’s national security team at one point believed there was a real threat, a 50% chance, that Putin would use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
• Biden said he “should never have picked” Attorney General Merrick Garland during a conversation over his son’s legal troubles.
• Biden criticized former President Barack Obama’s handling of Putin’s invasion of Crimea in 2014, concluding that “Barack never took Putin seriously.”
• Citing a Trump aide, Woodward reports that there have been “maybe as many as seven” calls between Trump and Putin since Trump left the White House in 2021.

It is worth noting that according to Woodward, Biden made that claim in relation to his son's legal issues and not in relation to the Trump investigations.

Had the situation been reversed and a Dem president pulled a Jan 6th, any R president would've been using the DOJ to prosecute anyone even tangentially involved. The "let's slow roll this" or "we cant weaponize the DOJ" approach got us a felonious traitor within the margin of error of winning in November. I give Joe high marks on a lot of things but this irks me to no end that we're basically at the coin flip stage of hanging onto democracy. Not sacking Garland really is his biggest failure in my book.

 

If Dems did J6, you can bet no one would have been allowed to just go home. They would've been shot, beaten, arrested, and held indefinitely. Political and financial leaders would likely be getting their sentences handed down about now (powerful people still have power and takes time to work against that class solidarity) while the grunts would already be in jail for decades. GOP states would also be doing a crackdown and various groups would be declared terrorist organizations (BLM, antifa, etc).

 

This is exactly what I was expecting after such a shocking event as Jan 6th. Imagine a foreign terror group pulling some attack on the Capitol and DOJ just moseying along the prosecution. Wouldn't happen.

BTW - any progress on nabbing the Jan 5th bomber? That's seemingly hit a dead end. And I see her posting idiocy on Twitter all the time.

There is nothing surprising about this. There was significant inflation for most of Biden's term and people simply do not like inflation, regardless of any other considerations. The basic reality is that things ARE more expensive than 5 years ago. While wages have also increased, that does not make that much of a difference. Everyone of us can make this simple psychological experiment: if someone gives you 500 dollars, it does not seem that much; however, if it is you who has to pay someone else 500 dollars, somehow those 500$ start looking like a huge amount.
It takes time for people to get mentally used with the new prices - and the economy started to stabilize itself only recently.
