In case anyone missed it, Donovan's gone: http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20041123&content_id=19573&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
Read the take on LD's move from the always-outstanding Grant Wahl here. He also mentions upcoming US friendlies, the MLS/adidas deal, and our very own grown-ass man.
Good luck Donovan. Glad I have your autograph on my cover of FIFA 2003. Have fun not being the biggest fish in the pond.
I almost forgot.... By the way Donny, thanks for doing something I wish Crespo or Batistuta would have done, taking a leak in the sacred Stadio Jalisco in Mexico
Considering how he has handled captaining the US MNT recently, I think he is ready for it. This move could be a huge step for US soccer - if he reaches that next level, and with Eddie coming on strong, DMB continuing to improve, the defensive core we have, etc..... Oof. Even after the craziness that was '02, things are still looking up.... BTW, note that Tuesday is the day for the draw for the next round of WCQ. Everyone pray for another early date against Mexico at home. February 2001 in Columbus was The Beginning of Something Wonderful. Why not an encore?
I'm going to miss watching him play on a regular basis. He's one heck of a player, and HE PLAYS THE BEAUTIFUL GAME.
Mud, I heard it on The Lil'Ticket (of all places) on my way to the SMU match. I echo Drum'r Boy... This is definetely a win win for Landon and US Soccer
Anyone, Where are the results? Closed door draw? When will the fixtures be posted? I have plane tickets to purchase...
You are a brave soul. That match in Mexico is going to be heated! Probably safer than Mexico/US in the Coliseum, however.
From USSoccer.com -- CONCACAF HEXAGONAL UPDATE -- CONCACAF FINAL ROUND DRAW SET FOR NOV. 30: The USA and the other five CONCACAF nations advancing to the final round of qualifying await the Nov. 30 draw at the FIFA offices in Zurich, Switzerland, that will determine the match schedule for the 2005 final round of qualifying, which is set to take place from Feb. 9 to Oct. 12. Damn....if this had only happened during the summer transfer period we probably could have beaten San Jo out for the last playoff spot. Good luck, Golden Boy......let's see what you can do on the big stage. It'd be great if Bayer and PSV make it into the knockout rounds of the CL and Donovan and DMB face each other.
Great article. He did not, however, pay equal tribute in his "congratulations" sequence - by congratulating Bayer Leverkusen. Without cooperative, forward moving progress from all the principals; these growth patterns would be hampered (HSG, pleeeease model your budget after AEG and integrate the entertainment factor into FSEC effectively!). Combine critical factors into the equation, and BANG!.. GROWTH!!!
hopefully he gets lots of playing time and grows more, the way the US team is shaping up I think 2005 can be the year we beat Mexico at the Azteca...yea I went there
Yeah, but maybe they are hoping for some juice from the Olympic qualifier there.... I think it is a stretch, but they're desperate.
if they do play in Mexcio before March, then I might try to join Sam's Army in Mexico. Would be nice if they played the game in say MOnetray(2-3 hrs from the border).
