Why exactly does Scotland play all their matches at Hampden? It kinda puzzles me considering there's such great football stadia as Celtic Park and Ibrox.... I've never seen a game at Hampden but it just looks like one of those track stadiums where the fans need binoculars to see the players.
History. Scotland have been playing at Hampden Park (there have been 3) for over 140 years and it staged the first international match ever. I think that for smaller matches, where the attendence may only be around 20,000, the games shouls be moved to Easter Road or Pittodrie (Hibs or Aberdeen) but for the big games, it should always be Hampden. If you actually go to Hampden, it's much better than it looks on TV and pictures. It's much more of a bowl than you imagine, mind you, I've never sat befind the goals. Also, Hampden is a Fifa 5* stadium, which has first class faciliteis for players, fans, everybody. Ibrox is also 5* but Parkhead is only 4*. There is no need to take games to Parkead or Ibrox.
Having only been at Hampden once since the last reconstruction ( South Stand Upper ) . It doesn't feel like you are that far from the pitch . It was a great day out on the Scottish Cup Final a year ago and I think it's a great stadium . That being said I agree with that the SFA are doing in moving the smaller matches to smaller venues like Easter Road .
My only criticism of Hampden is I think it is a bit shallow. Also is the piggery not a 5 star stadium now as well?
Hampden is fine and I've been behind the goal, no problem seeing the whole pitch! Only problem for me is that it is too small and a pox to get to!
