Can someone please explain what good it does sending MFO reps with "MPF" stickers/hats to an ESC gathering? Isn't that a huge instance of preaching to the choir? Can anyone explain that? Please?

    Well, yes and no.

They were there to provide some sales support, dropped off some extra tickets, and just basically to hang with us. They took some pictures for what will likely be a story on the metrostars.com web site, which is good press for the club and the bar.

They weren't there to convert us to being metro fans, just to support us and get them in front of us.

Frankly, the more they hang with us and understand us, the better. They knew we were having a party and wanted to show up. It was a good thing. If you don't get that, okay.

I got the support/presence part. Don't understand the MPF handouts. If they want to give those out/spread the word, they could pick a much better locale for their marketing.

Wait a second, so MFO actually shows some interest in the ESC and everyone complains about it? They're spreading the word about the playoffs because they recognize that extra ESC support could be a nice push for the side in a few weeks? The team actually wants to sell tickets and see 101 more full?

Idiots. This board is turning into more trash then what the stadium was built on.

I dont think people are complaining that MFO is paying attention to ESC. But rather that they are probably focusing their energy to the wrong crowd. I mean ESC is going to be there regardless of wether or not they get a free MPF hat. The smart thing to do is to get this kind of promo to people who dont know.

THe last thing the ESC needs is to be swooned by some crappy gimmick. If they trully wanted to help the ESC they could do it in so many different ways. Telling them about the playoffs(which they already know of) and giving them some crappy hats is not helping them at all. If anything people were making fun of them and wearing those ridiculous hats as a joke(Metro Piss on FIRE).

Um... just because you saw them there doesnt necessarily mean they arent doing the same thing to the general masses. How do you know that they arent preaching to the non-choir to at non-esc events in the metro area?

Of course... i dont believe that they are. But its nice to imagine.

Exactly. If the MFO were doing ANYTHING else to promote themselves, then they can send reps to ESC gatherings to make an official presence and do anything they want. But since thats not the case, Id rather those same reps be out on the street trying to sell Metro to people who arent already going to be at the games.

Simon, MFO has ALWAYS shown a presence at ESC events. Its just how do they do it that sucks. As Metrocorazon said, them showing up and handing out year old nonsensical hats/stickers is not doing ANYTHING for them.

"Spreading the word about the playoffs"? To who? ESC doesnt need to be told.

"Extra ESC support"? If MFO supported the team half as well as the ESC does, we'd draw 20k a game every game. We support the team, not MFO.

"Wants to sell tickets and make 101 more full"? How are they accomplishing this? By showing up at one of the biggest gatherings of the supporters group ever(the choir) and handing out frickin hats and stickers?

And the frickin hats were straight out of a New Year's eve consingment shipment. Cheap and ugly as hell. MFO sucks. We know it. I am ashamed to be associated with the FO as a MetroFan.

What's reassuring to me is that this MPF campaign is finally working. 13K at the Dallas match, 5K at the Cup Final...and maybe we can get down to 2,500 for the NE match.
Wait...the idea is to lower attendance so we can move the team to Florida, right? Metro Packing for Florida?

There were also like two dozen patrons at NH's who wouldn't normally be there in the late afternoon but were because they couldn't get home. I was glad that the MFO was there to do any sort of promotion at all.

    Hmmm..."everyone?"

There were three posts on this thread before yours, and only one was a complaint.

At least with MPF, the MFO is doing something to promote Metro soccer. No matter how stupid it is. Having the MFO showing up at ESC events is a good thing. The MFO might actually learn something and do good promotions to get more people to Metro games.

MFO should have raffled some stuff off to us, or handout some cool Metro prizes/merchandise..... you know... help pump us up more without the MPF gimmick.... It's good that MFO was there. The more ESC events the MFO attends the better. It's good to build up a relationship between ESC and MFO. But I agree that what they did there could have been better....
