I rember during the world cup on alot of forums soccer fans were calling soccer haters and accusing soccer haters of liking NASCAR. What is this about is what it repesents of is it incredibley boring and there should be no logical reason to enjoy it. And is it just NASCAR or other motor sports which get this hard cold shoulder response?

Could you translate this sentence into English please? :)

I, for one, like soccer and auto racing (including NASCAR but I prefer CART and IRL.)

    Maybe I'm just weird.

I'm not saying its weird I nver watched the sport. All I'm saying that I was on the Yahoo forums alot during the worldcup and when someone started calling soccer thier respoonse was along the lines of you probaly sit around allday watchin NASCAR. I was just wonderin what thier problem was with the sport.

99% of the stuff posted on the Yahoo forums is meaningless drivel. Or worse.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time trying to figure out why they say the things do.

But since I don't have anything better to do... :)

To some fans of other sports, "NASCAR fan" = "ignorant white trash". So when these Yahoo yahoos want to insult someone, they think they're being witty by calling someone a NASCAR fan.

That's my 20-second "analysis." It's probably such meaningless drivel that's it's better suited for a Yahoo forum than for BigSoccer.

As far as "what their problem was with the sport" I think it' obvious: they simply don't like it. If you want to know why they don't like it, I don't know the answer.

Personally, I love NASCAR. In the South, NASCAR is very popular. I loved going to races at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Talledega, Briston, and other great race tracks. There is nothing like 43 cars screaming by a several thousand horsepower.

I just can't get into a motorsport where the cars go round and round. That's why I can't watch the IRL either.

I'll stick with CART, F1 and Rally Racing.

Nah, just NASCAR. :) All other motorsports are cool, even NHRA drag racing (a close second-to-last on the I.Q. chart to NASCAR)

and theres nothing better than an F1 car going by with a naturally aspirated engine raging at 16+k RPMs...

or a rally car drifting around a hairpin turn, then down a slope to go over a hill, catching air going 100+mph...

or... you could watch these bulky cars that have no right going that fast turn left... and left... and left again...

F1, CART, Rally are all real racing sports. I'll stick with the same arguement as everyone else, NASCAR is just circles.

I saw a survey of NASCAR fans last year. The average income of a NASCAR fan was something like 60K a year. I have been to races with well over 125k people in attendance. Most of those around me were NOT rednecks!

So, what were they doing at a NASCAR event, then? Masquerading as rednecks?

I HATE Nascar with a passion. Its the only thing me and that tool Rome agree on.

Cruickinator: Have you ever seen the show "Cops"? Its basically American police officers going around on calls. Watch when they do a beat in a southern American city. There you will find your common Nascar fan.

Well I watched a show on tv where they were in Alabama at some NASCAR event and they went around interviewing the fans... there were TONS of rednecks.

They showed a shot of the parking lot with the RV's and 9 out of 10 had the Confederate flag flying right along with the flag of their favorite driver. They were interviewing a number of these people and they were the biggest rednecks in every sense. Racist, anti-North, the South will rise again rednecks.

You watched a show about nascar fans from ALABAMA and there were rednecks? hmmmmmmmm.......Do you think it was the Nascar or maybe the Locale?
I have been to races in Delaware, New Hampshire, Pennslyvania, and Virginia....Are there trash at these events??? you betcha.......Have I seen white trash rednecks at soccer games??? damn straight......Its not the sport...its society.

I guess I understand it better since I have to defend this AND when people tell me that the only people who watch soccer are dishwashers and eurotrash......

    Stereotypes are stupid.

I'll take NASCAR over any of the other motor sports.

Not a huge fan but I'll watch the Daytona 500 & I'll watch NASCAR over the NBA or MLB anytime.

Sure, there are rednecks that go to NASCAR. However, the CHEAP seats are something like $30. The expensive seats go into the hundreds and I can't imagine how much it costs to get your RV in the infield.

Not everyone flying the Confederate flag is a racist, redneck. I have gone to many UGA football games, and I have seen hundreds for Confederate flags hoisted by middle-class, professional business people (white, black AND Asian). It is a symbol of regional identity for many Southerners.

    ;)

This may be true, but are you sure you intended to word it as you have? I mean, I've seen several of Dante's posts, and this was one of his best.

And this doesn't actually offer proof for your first sentence. It's not the money. And, on some occasions, it's not even the color.
