OK, this is not the place, but...I found one of our regular posters getting a Haiku published on Salon.com. Could this be a case of mistaken identity? http://www.salon.com/opinion/letters/2004/11/03/defeat/index.html Well said, Jay.
Oh!...and you were so close to a haiku yourself there. With just a little tweak: Jay Hipps rules the roost, (and he too is my hero!) ("stolen" from DougO)
Yup, that's me. And, since you brought it up, that's pretty much how I feel. A lot of people have forgotten that having a free society means that you don't necessarily agree with the choices that everyone else is making, but you grant them the right to make those choices because you get the same slack as part of the deal. You don't tell them how to live and they don't tell you how to live, all because there's a tacit understanding that it's up to each person to make their own choices about how to live their life freely, in pursuit of their own happiness. Right now, though, there seem to be a lot of people who think they have all the answers in life and they've decided that everyone else needs to live the way they do. Bush has mobilized the Christian community -- who have the best of intentions -- and struck a blow against a free society. Good intentions and ignorance are the only explanation I see for the outcome of yesterday's election. And before anyone bags on me for criticizing Christians, please research where the middle line of my haiku comes from. You might be surprised. ...now returning the channel to the previously scheduled soccer talk...
The only explanation I see for the outcome of this election is that hate and propaganda doesn't win elections. People are starting to think for themselves and not believing the liberal media that is "Rather" biased. This republic has dodged a socialist bullet and people are starting to wake up.
Congrats, Jay! These are scary times indeed. Though San Mateo and Santa Clara counties voted overwhelmingly for Kerry (and everyone I talked to today was in shock/mourning) I'm afraid of this tide of self-righteous rightwingers that seems to have an ever-stronger hold on this country. Many Bush voters supported him out of fear (of terrorism, of moral decay), and I'm seeing that fear spreading. There are people out there in middle America who are worried about Barack Obama "because he's a Muslim and will blow up the Senate." I am also reading that the voters who were drawn to the polls to support the gay marriage bans on the ballots of eleven states may have contributed the critical pro-Bush votes in this election. What can you do when the land of the free and the home of the brave takes a turn for the fascist?
Fixed your post. Have fun with your share of the $25,000.00 National debt your "conservative" President is racking up, and in such important ways as paying Halliburton $85,000 for an oil filter, $45.00 each for a 30-pack of coke, and our brave soldiers a stunning $13,000.00 a year plus $250.00 "combat pay" for getting shot at. George Bush. War President. Way to support the troops buddy.
I thought about wearing a black armband today, but decided against it. However, we really shouldn't be talking about politics here. Let's keep it on topic. Kudos for Jay to be published but let's not argue. We had a chance to vote Tuesday, and we all said our piece then (failure to vote counts too). I'm not a moderator here, but there's a politics forum for this kind of thing.
True and true... However, given that the drivel tends to go down towards the rants you hear on Crossfire, it's more for entertainment. On the more thoughful side, the premium supersecret board has a lot more thoughtful discussion on politics, with a bit of loose fun thrown in. That's it for the off topic post here. One more reason to fork down the $, besides not getting any server busy messages.
I forked, and haven't seen server busy messages in a long time. But I don't know about any "premium supersecret board" - where is that?
It's not a politics forum, it's a liberal circle-jerk run by the leftist moderator Gringo-Tex. It's OK to have a opinion as long as it's his. If you try to post any conservative viewpoints they get deleted right away Congratulations Jay, you're a great guy but in my opinion you're wrong about this. Better to stick to sports as a subject, we step on less toes that way
posted politically. then saw another forum. cant figure out how to delete my post - so i'll leave this here instead.
I'm shutting this down. Those of you who want to talk politics on BigSoccer, you know where you can find the politics forum.
