Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I'll start: 1. Current range favorite: Glock 30 in .45 ACP. Man, that is one bad ass tack driver. 10+1 in God's favorite caliber, and in a concealable package too. 2. Best all purpose for self-defense: Smith & Wesson 638 J-Frame in .38 Special +P. Fits in a nice Mika pocket holster, the 642 hammerless (double action only) has two heavy of a trigger pull, even with the Mike's kit. With the single action available on the shrouded hammer, much better. An American classic that's been around for years, although it is one of the ugliest revolvers Smith & Wesson makes. 3. If I had to chose one handgun: A Colt or Smith & Wesson 1911 variant. Hands down, there is no second place, even for the venerable Glock 17 or Glock 30. 4. My favorite scattergun: What I own currently, a Ruger Red Label O/U 12 ga. Saving my pennies for a Parker...gonna take a while, they ain't exactly cheap or widely available. 5. Favorite battle rifle: AK. I'm not one of the M16 detractors, especially in the current carbine configurations that the troopers in Afghanistan & Iraq go to battle with. But what defines the AK is the fact that it always works, under combat conditions (going for days without cleaning, crappy & dirty ammo, dropped in the mud & muck, sand in the action/bolt, a rather violent recoil (watch any of the AK slo-mo videos on YT, it is a wonder that the action doesn't stress-fail more often than it actually does on the AK series), etc. Nostalgic favorite: Still having fun with my Mosin-Nagant M44 carbine. That 7.62x54R round is very serviceable & highly underrated as far as US "exotics" go. One other rifle I am saving my pennies for is the new ultralight Kimber 84M in the new Federal .338 cartridge...hope to pick one up before deer season, but if I don't, I think I'll leave the Weatherby 7mm bolt action at home and give the Mosin-Nagant a try.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. http://youtube.com/watch?v=iwm46kUIpys Look at my shot groups man (1st target.)... Every hole except one is doubled up..gotta thank Uncle Sam for that. This was with a brand new, unzeroed rifle. My buddy was adjusting first the windage and then the elevation...and as you can see my shot group started crawling toward the bulls eye.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I'm about to hit the gym, so I'll read over your firearms post a bit later. For as long as I'm a NYC resident I will not be allowed to own any guns. These days I'm mostly into shooting my other gun onto [EDIT: Use your imagination].
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. Unzeroed, eh? Impressive. I also like how you were doing your best impression as a range officer for your buddy, who looked mighty uncomfortable & I'm guessing who never shot from a supported position before
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. Hopefully that will change with last week's SCOTUS decision in District of Columbia v. Heller. A clear and unambiguous victory for all Second Amendment proponents. The NRA has already filed court challenges to overly restrictive self-defense laws in Chicago and San Francisco, in light of the decision, my guess is NYC is soon to come. It will be nice to see that blowhard Bloomberg get cut down to size, for a change.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. Ohh no no. I wouldn't want to have a gun here. God forbid, I might shoot someone. Last Wednesday during soccer practice some Jamaican individual stole my bag, that contained my wallet, only set of apartment keys, iPod, and a brand new Blackberry Curve ( a birthday gift from my mom), and of course my clothes and food. All of that shit got stolen and I got a $1000 phone bill because that certain Jamaican individual decided to make a few calls to Kingston. So many reasons to have a gun in NYC that I'd rather not have one.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I'm sorry, nobody ever taught me how to behave at a civilian range... I was used to supervising joes...
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. Naah, you did well. There's a lot of civilian ranges here, but I only go to two, primarily because both have trained, ex-military range officers monitoring & supervising the range. There's one only about 3 miles from my house that I will never, ever go to again, because to the lack of adequate supervision on the range, just a couple of gun nuts running it. And for the rest of you, yes, there IS a big difference between the "gun-nut"/militia type and the responsible, trained, firearms/shooting sports/2nd Amendment proponent/personal self-defense types.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. You're both gun nuts at the end of the day.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. And you are once again offering an uneducated & rather banal opinion, if you don't know the difference. Somehow, I knew you'd manage to chime in on a thread that you know as much about as you do re: open heart surgery. Just outta curiosity - how many years do you have to wait to go back to Russia, when you're of the age that you won't be drafted? Dima in the Russian Army...now THAT has the makings of an Oscar-bound documentary/tragic comedy.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I'd pay the entirety of what little savings I have to see that production!
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I'm not sure how much of my savings I would pay for that, but I would direct it as a comedy.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I know the difference. You're both gun nuts, you and loden are just responsible gun nuts. I'm a soccer nut, you're a soccer nut and a gun nut. I like guns, guns are cool if used responsibley.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. Uhm, aren't you the one who's dying to move back to Russia. Let me guess, you're not actually going to go through with it and this whole moving back to Russia crap is just some weird front.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I meant to say shoes lol...I had to walk to my relatives place wearing my Predators, it was not a pretty picture.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. See, I couldn't believe it. We walked onto a range while the line was hot, picked a lane, and then we were sitting there for good 15 minutes trying to figure out when they're going to call a cease-fire so we could put up our target. ...and then the cavalry showed up. The "tough" semi-senile range officer who told us that we couldn't be here and that we had to wait in order to be let onto the range. Of course nothing was marked or supervised, and it was just a complete cluster-******** by the military standards.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I'm not really a gun nut because I don't own any. But I would like to own an: M14 Colt 1911 Some sort of M4 Carbine variant with all the neat toys attached <---I'd keep that for protection.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. I don't remember where I read it or saw it, but in I believe the LRRPs or the SEALs or the SF used the M14 as their preferred combat rifle for it's stopping power long after the M16 family weapons were introduced.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. It's so funny, these days I'm actually dusting off my military skills. I'm teaching my woman land nav....teaching a sexy lawyer land nav in Central park in NYC....that's like an army wet dream..
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. You don't need a gun in NYC. I support the second amendment, but I strongly stand by that. And it has nothing to do with Bloomberg, as far as I recall.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. LOL!!! Yea when I read the food part I thought that went a little too far as far as items in a practice bag goes You had to walk through NYC/Brooklyn in predators? lol If you guys don't mind me asking, how old are you guys? I'm 23.
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. Just turned 26
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. That's cool, congrats. What part of Ukraine are you from? Where do you live now?
Re: OT: loden & Zenit's "We like to shoot - Thank God for the Second Amendment & 11 Bravos" thread. Kiev and New York, respectively. Is there a prize?
