Sorry didn’t see a thread posted yet, figured might as well get one going. With the mid week game taking place this week what lineup changes do we expect from Wednesday? Romney should get a start tonight right?
Lima on the injury report as questionable. Bye may be starting 1809706677584949486 is not a valid tweet id
Romney starts and get beaten by Morris, and the Reve s are down early. Another goal given up by the Revs where Ivacic barely moves. And apparently Borrero hurt himself during warmups, allowing Jack to start. I think the announcers say the Revs now have 11 players injured.
Had about a 10 minute or so stretch to end the first half where I actually had some optimism, but came out in the second half mostly flat and that was the game. Esmir looked good mostly, as did Jack for portions. Whatever the Revs are doing to get Vrioni chances the last four games, I hope that continues at least. If nothing else, good to see Dias get to step on the field for a couple of minutes.
Yes what was disappointing is the entire second half you would have thought that Seattle was the team that was behind. The Revs didn’t muster any offense. The other extremely disappointing item the build up out of the backfield. Too many times we just couldn’t connect on passes, turning the ball over, and keeping the team on our heels. But yes, one of those games you can chalk up to injuries. Bad circumstances
Always stinks to lose - but yeah, as for as losses go, that wasn't a particularly painful one. There's no one to blame but the injury list. Of the top 6 attacking mids/wingers who would naturally line up as part of the "3" in the 4-2-3-1, only one (Esmir) is available. When both your first and second stringers are out, it's tough to expect much. For once, roster construction isn't the issue. It's kind of ironic that we're now thinnest in the position where, going into the season, we looked the deepest. Now, poor roster construction is the reason we still have to bring Wood on when Vrioni needs a sub. Wood snagged some poacher-like goals for us at the start of last season, but this year he's offered nothing. There was one play, in stoppage time, when Spaulding cut in field, and Wood was inexplicably standing around next to the CMs, pointing backwards - and when Spaulding made a neat lil pass to the spot where any striker with a pulse would have been moving, Wood just stood there. Spaulding (who had a rough game himself) looked rightfully annoyed. Oh, well. Onto the next one.
Yeah, the Revs weren't terrible, strictly speaking, but, uh.... they miss Carles, if for watchability reasons alone.
The first half was decent other than Romney getting beaten by Morris on the goal. Esmir probably should have scored on his 2nd attempt off (I believe) as save by Frei on Vrioni. Frei didn't know much about it - his feet happened to be in the right place. 2nd half was pretty much a bust. We couldn't really threaten and it seemed like must a matter of time before Seattle got a 2nd goal. Why do we have so many injuries? Do we have too many old guys among the reserves? Is it the training methods? The training staff? It's obscene that so many guys on this squard are banged up. Most encouraging to me was that we controlled play for much of the first half. I'll give them a pass for the 2nd half.
Ya, it's crazy to think that our best options for offensive spark plug subtitues are Bobby Wood and Tommy Mac.....oh, and the announcers mentioned something like even Bobby Wood physically can't go that long (with 18 min being his max outing this year)
Given the travel, the mid-week game, the lack of 1st lineup bodies - I thought we were pretty competitive, other than the fact that we were just too soft on the two goals we gave up. The first reminded me of how Farrell used to line up for a shoulder charge, only to be the one who got knocked off balance. Romney actually took himself out of the play - if he had just latched onto Morris, he's have had a lot more trouble getting off that shot. On the 2nd, you could see that happening in slow-motion - in my head I'm screaming "step up, step up", but Romney only points, as though someone else should do it because he's got to stay and guard this precious space.
Just venting here. Why is Tommy Mac still on the squad? looked unable to keep up with the speed of the game. Arriaga was was too agressive the entire game. Spaulding seems to have regressed since his red card game, will he ever get back to his original form? I'd say on a positive note, the team should theoritcally be getting better without Gil leading them, when he returns hopefully this team can take a giganitc leap forward. Ivacic saved 2 more goals this game, which is good, but this team shouldn't be giving up so many chances
I"m COMPLETELY with you as I don't think he adds much value (if any), but I guess I won't complain too much about the someone with such a diminished role anyway. But yes, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a younger (more athletic prospect) in that role.
Still above the playoff line on PPG: But that -18 GD is worse than anyone except San Jose. Twenty games played and they have yet to win a game by more than one goal. Eight of 12 losses by more than one goal.
