Steve Mellor is the 2001 Gatorade Pennsylvania State Player of the Year and a NSCAA High School All-American. Mellor, a native of Langhorne, Pa., is a forward from Neshaminy High School and plays for the Delco Club team. The reason I am asking about this guy is that he is coming to play at my Alma Mater, Appalachian State U. in Boone, NC. Anyone seen him play, or know if he is a legit player?? What is the quality of HS soccer in PA? It sounds like we may have gotten a steal...
I watched the U18 FC Delco team in the Nationals last week, and didn't see a Steve Mellor playing for them. I saw several players that were very impressive though. I'd say the quality of play in PA is pretty high. BTW, I hear that App State is supposed to be getting a new stadium with a grass field next year.
They've been saying for years we were going to get a soccer/field hockey stadium, but it hasn't happened yet. Yeah, I don't know how we get good players out to App with that turf...we even got 3 guys from the Trin and Tobago U-18 national team to come play for us next year...
App State? "Yeah, I don't know how we get good players out to App with that turf..." my thought was how do they get good players simply because they suck...
Re: App State? Give them some time...they have a quality coach that has only been there a short time...
hs soccer sucks because of the piaa. thye just don't let the kids play. i feel the officials definately get in the way of the game. they call everything by the book. other than that i've never seen or heard of mellor.
Re: App State? Lemme guess, you are either a Tarhick, a Dookie, from UNC-Gay, or a Purple Pansy Paladin?? Either way, we've done pretty well considering we have astro-turf, we've had 3 coaches in the last 4 years, and not alot of scholarships. If we get a nice grass pitch (crosses fingers) we will consistently challenget UNCG and Furman (two top 25 programs) for the conference title.
