Re: Crew v. United Field was bad. Creativity in the attack just wasn't there, and we have no threats on set pieces without Marshall. If this is how we play on crappy, wet fields, PR scares me.
Re: Crew v. United Nothing left to do tonight but root for San Jose. We need Chivas to fail to win at least once to have a chance to win the Shield on the last day. Our lack of goal scoring punch is becoming worrisome. Needs for next year: 1) Someone to orchestrate in the middle of the park 2) A goal scorer.
Re: Crew v. United The subs really addded nothing tonight. Renteria apparently cannot play in rain. Garey was off. DC goalie had a great night......
Re: Crew v. United 0 Goals in the last 390+ minutes from the run of play by our offense. This is shaping up to be a bad 8 days to be a Crew fan. If our offense doesn't pick up, we will be knocked out of Champions league, SS and MLS Cup. Defense was great. Their goal started by poor midfield decisions. I can't think of anyone outside of Rogers that did anything on offense. I don't want to panic, but our offense isn't going to win us any playoff series right now.
Re: Crew v. United What a shit match. We completely outplayed them in that sloppy sisaster, but have nothing to show for it. They were lucky to pick up the 3 points, and we didn't even play that well. Our defenders, Burns, and Rogers were the only ones who gave it their all out there. Schelotto slowed down and weakened our attack yet again. And what the hell was Renteria thinking, earning that red card? I don't think that's what he was subbed in to do. And though that call was deserved, the officiating was terrible tonight. I know that the destiny of the Supporters Shield is no longer controlled by us blahblahblah etc etc, but to me as long as we've got home-field advantage I'm happy, the SS would just be the cherry on top. The real thing that we should be worried about is this: the playoffs are about to start, and nobody, including our coach, has any clue of what our best lineup is. That is a scary, scary thought.
Re: Crew v. United I think RW probably has a pretty good idea of what his best lineup is. The problem is, he can't play it until he can focus on one competition, which he'll be able to do after Tuesday, win, lose, or draw.

Re: Crew v. United You really think he knows exactly who he wants at striker, and who he wants at CM? I sure don't. The play of our team without Guillermo contrasted with our anemic offense since his return seems to have raised questions in his mind (it certainly has in mine) about who we should be playing up top. And then we've had mixed results with our different CM pairings as well.
Re: Crew v. United Anyone else think it was funny that right after Dwight said Danny Szetela was coming in, ONN decided to run an Ohio Lottery commercial? At least he got rid of the girly haircut. Crew Cat
Re: Crew v. United So nothing. We're crap in front of goal at the moment. And congratulations Missionary, if Rogers keeps this run of form up he will be looking like the real deal. I would now put him in the top three wingers in MLS, maybe even the #1 spot.
Re: Crew v. United Which offense is worse, Ohio State or the Crew??? Im going with the Crew. Despite the fact TP isnt on the roster for them. What a shitty day in the world of Central Ohio sports.
Re: Crew v. United The SS is still very much controlled by the Crew. If Houston and LA tie tomorrow, they are out. Either way, at least one of them will be out tomorrow and the Crew only need a point against NE to knock them out because we own the tie breakers with them. If we lose against NE, Chivas still has to win 2 of 3 to pass the Crew because if they only get 5 points, the Crew own the tie breaker. Their final two games are @Chicago and Houston, neither are going to be easy games to win. If the Crew gets a point against NE, Chivas has to get 7pts out of their 3 games. If the Crew wins, Chivas has to win all three. The point is, we still have the upper hand and all the pressure is on the teams chasing the Crew. I agree.
Re: Crew v. United I suspect his plan was to play safe here and go for the win on Tuesday. As someone else said, the Supporters Shield is the cherry on top. Even with tonight's result, we can still win the SS. Let's hope we get it figured out by the time the playoffs start. We seem to have a good core group, but we don't seem to have much depth. Say what you want about superstition, but this is two times recently that Neil Sika wasn't on Crew Xtra and two times recently that we lost. (For those of you who don't watch Crew Xtra, every time Neil goes on, he wears a Crew scarf. Coincidence or not, the team usually wins their next game.)
Re: Crew v. United Crap. No inventiveness up front. We cannot finish for shit. The challenge by Renteira was beyond stupid.
Re: Crew v. United You're crazy. Whacking a guy from behind when the ball's already out by at least a yard makes perfect sense.
Re: Crew v. United The latter sentence being true in no way makes the first sentence true. The Crew in no way control the SS now. The only thing they can control is their game against New England next week. They can win that game and not win the Shield if Chivas wins out. Control of the Shield has shifted to Chivas. They control their own destiny. There's nothing the Crew can do to top them unless Chivas stumbles, at which time Chivas would pass control back to the Crew. I'm not disagreeing with your second sentence, but the cold hard mathematical fact is that, at the present time, the Crew no longer control their own Shield destiny. Chivas will need to cede control back to the Crew.
Re: Crew v. United The pressure might be on the chasers, but I don't think it's a fair assessment to say the Supporters' Shield is "very much" controlled by the Crew. As it stands right now, with Chivas playing San Jose, the Crew longer control their own destiny. Sure, Chivas has to win their games in hand but they have two games in hand and only trail Columbus by 5 points. Chivas wins their next two games - tonight and Thursday at Chicago - and we're the ones going into the last round trailing by a point. Heck, Chivas plays 2 hours before us on Sunday; the Shield could be clinched before we even take the field. Columbus is on top with points in the bank, but we're left to root for San Jose and Chicago to prevent Chivas from taking full points. When you're rooting for other teams, I don't think you can say something is "very much" in your control.
Re: Crew v. United By the way, Crew: That's two losses to teams with players wearing two different-colored shoes. You make me sad.
Re: Crew v. United And as Sirk has confirmed with MLS HQ in the MLS N&A thread, there are scenarios of a 3 way tie on 50 (Crew/CHV/Hou or Crew/Chv/LA) where we can lose the TB as well. It's the three team with Chivas and Houston, even though Chivas is last on PPG and we are tied with Houston, since a team had not advanced yet, it goes to the number 2 TB in the 3-team scenario (even though Chivas has been eliminated, it doesn't revert to 2-team tiebreakers) and Houston would probably win on GD, because ours is +11, and theirs sits at +9 (and they have to win twice to get into this scenario). If we were to tie on GD, total goals is next, and we currently have 40, Houston 36.
Re: Crew v. United Crap match tonight. Can't score. Sucks. On the other hand, I've almost got this done:
Re: Crew v. United I still think that whole scenario is stupid. If I understand what Sirk wrote correctly, the purpose of the tie-breaker isn't to eliminate a team but rather advance a team, right? In a two-way tie-breaker that's one in the same, but with three or more teams involved it's a completely different approach. So stupid. If it weren't to the detriment of the Crew, I might be inclined to root for all the results necessary to produce as many ties as possible as well as the results that would have the first-place Crew not playing the worst team in the East but rather a team from the West who has more points than the East's second-place team. Stupid, stupid MLS.
