Did I just miss this development completely earlier? It's news to me. Relevant quote: MLSnet.com: What conference will the Wizards be in next season due to expansion? Curt Johnson: The word that I hear is the Eastern Conference, so that change will be made. That's not ideal for us, but certainly it's hard to argue with geography.
not really a development. it came up on MLS yesterday and was being talked about on the Dallas board. it'll be an interesting year. the Eastern Conference will be very very interesting next year.
You knew it was going to be either Dallas or KC, so this isn't surprising. I guess this means we now have a "rivalry" with The Wiz.
Putting Dallas and Chicago together might make more sense. You want to keep rivalries together even if it violates a geographic split. No one in the NFL would consider splitting Washington-Dallas or KC-Oakland.
I wonder what the thinking was behind KC moving east as opposed to Dallas since Dallas does actually have a rivalry with an eastern team (Chicago) and KC's biggest rival seems to be LA?
It's all about Geography. I think the KC - LA rivalry started due to them both chasing first place this season, not sure though.
Next year??? Hell. driving down New Hampshire Ave, to North Capitol, to Mass Ave, into Lot 8 then back again, I need a re-alignment about every six months.
I think it's good. DC hasn't exactly excelled in Dallas in years past, why go out there an extra time or two a season?
Yeah, KC is further east than Dallas, and that seems to be about it. I was thinking that they should put Dallas and Chicago in the same division because of the rivalry. KC is too boring a team to actually hate them enough to have a rivalry.
Why? Well it would depend if Dema is still with the team. I just love to see their heads explode everytime he goes to Dallas.
I prefer KC coming to the East. I think this will only last until the next expansion when we'll probably see yet another conference formed. Dallas would have been fun, but keep Dallas in the West, Houston is getting a team sooner or later.
STOP! No more 3 conference crap. That was a nightmare. I actually have no problems with KC coming east. One more opportunity for Shawn to throw donuts at Fat Tony, and now we can make fun of Stuart Scott, I mean Bo.
Agreed. I think that if MLS has wisened up and is keeping two conferences for 12 teams (divisible by three) then they wouldn't split to three with 14 teams (not divisible by three).
I think this came more down to which stadium would Uncle Lamar rather have Chivas USA play two road matches, Kansas City or Dallas. Any other sporting concerns , IMHO, would have put FCD in the East.
Whispers in the wind have KC moving because they may end up in some northern state that for some reason wants two teams - one in a big city (that is actually in another state...) and the other upstate. Something about a rage....?
And to think with Andy Mead coming here at least two or three more times a year, he can jinx DC United right back into the playoffs
Thank you. Was just going to reply to thread also that it seems no one remebered the rukus earlier in the year when Hunt went tight lipped about KC's future. There's a great chance KC will be moving this off season, or next. Rochester, Philly, NY.. in that order. Rochester has a brand new stadium either already done, or on the way I think. They already have 15K average home attendance. The Wiz/Rhinos would be instantly profitable with MLS ticket prices, and cheaper logistics for travel (busses instead of planes to NE, C-bus, and Metros. I would love to see an MLS team in Rochester. They deserve it more than any other city, and KC's lack of support at home and no plans for a SSS are pathetic.
Not to mention instant fans (sorry couldn't resist) So would my mother-in-law as it would mean I have to be nice to her so I can have free lodging for those road trips Actually more than the stadium issue, I think MLS needs another team with rabid fans (which the Rhinos seem to have) that can help promote fans really getting into games. -dave
