anyone got any recommendations for region free DVD players? edit: Philips DVP-642, I've been told this one will play DVDs from the US and the UK. However, I can read the specs on CompUSA.com and it doesn't say if it does, it just says it can play anything.
Go to store. Pick out DVD player you like. Write down the make and model. Come home. Look it up on this site. If it's on there, go back to the store and buy it. If it's not, go back to store and find another one you like.
is there any way to do it without the hacks? it's for a friend who wants to get one for someone else, so the less stuff one has to do the better.
Now, I *haven't* tried out the region-free aspect of my DVP-642, but it *has* played everything I've stuck in it. PAL, NTSC, DiVX/XViD - everything.
so, if one were to get a DVD shipped from the UK that doesn't play in regular US DVD players it would play in the DVP-642?
My *guess* would be yes, but I've never actually tried that myself. Actually, just found this which indicates that it should be pretty easy to make it officially region-free.
It isn't possible to buy non-region free DVD players here in Norway anymore. If you do get one, you just take it back to the store and ask them to "fix" it. Eazy fo cheezy. Is it a big deal to find one in stores back home?
