Well, let's look at the bright side.... he's gotten it out of the way, will be fit by the end of the club schedule and can segue right into training with the Nats. ...at least I'm trying to look at the bright side.
How is it possible that a team in the EPL could allow one of their top players to go this long without proper medical attention? Citeh must really be struggling to stay afloat, so they are saving in medical costs.
Yeah. This makes a lot of sense - he has been playing too well this year to just come out and tank it. Unfortunately, Claudio begins yet another in a long series of rehabs. I detect a pattern. Hopefully City won't have found a replacement for him by the time he comes back.
and Reyna isn't exactly young like Johnson. He has been hurt too much lately. Do you think is age is finally catching up to him?
Another brightside is that is was a break instead of ligament damage.. As strange as that sounds, bone heals much better and quicker than ligaments. I know first hand from a wrist operation from a goalkeeping accident. I was out for 8 months after sugery (ligaments) and still have to be careful, and probably shouldnt play GK again, if I was smart about it. Had that been a break, I'd be back in no time, and it would heal alot better.
If the injury only requires 6-8 weeks, he will be back in game shape for tournament. If it takes longer...who knows. Pablo is looking mighty good at this point.
You'd have to think that Reyna will be in the World Cup squad even if it takes him an extra month to heal. His experience could be invaluable this summer in a very tough group to try to qualify from.
Ah...I wondered why he looked so bad against Wigan and then was out today. I hope he heals in about six weeks and can get fit and healthy for the world cup. O'Brien isn't even back on the bench for ADO Den Haag, not encouraging to have the two most important center mids on the US team out injured again.
Come on, the doom and gloom is silly. First, the reason he played so crappy was not because he is getting old but because he has a broken ankle. The latter can be, and usually is, even in 30+ years olds, fixed quickly and perfectly. Secondly, it is two less months of wear and tear on his body and less chance of an injury that will actually carry over into June.
I agree with Martin. If you've followed Claudio's career he almost never makes it through the season unscathed. Now, the only question is, when will McBride go down (you know he's due) and how bad will it be?
Good question...and that is our thinnest position. We don't really have much to replace him. Conner Casey? Please Zimmerman is starting to turn into a McBride, but he is awfully young. Too early for him.
It wouldn't be the most rediculous thing in the world if Lee Nguyen made the team. Very unlikely, but not the most rediculous thing in the world.
im not too concerned. like someone said earlier, its a bone, not a ligament so thats at least one positive. also, he will have a two month "lay off" and then will only play another 2 months before the world cup. it would seem to me that that would put him in better shape fitness wise (form might be another issue). the thing im most worried about is that he has seemed to play so well in non-injured games all season and i dont want him to lose that. ideal scenario: beas literally killed during a match, job's legs detach from his body, mcbride's eye swells til it pops, reyna never heals, someone drops a weight on gam's foot, and someone beats the crap out of landon for that goal celebration he does (or at least used to do)
The thing about Reyna is he tends to rehab fairly well (remember he and Mathis blew ACL the same year - actually, wasn't Reyna's later?) because he stays in very good shape. But there's no guarentees, of course. It's certainly better now than in May. That I can say unequivocally. Be a shame if he can't contribute more this year at City, tho, they could still make this a damn fine season.
Not to get all scientific here, as I am not in the medical field, but I dont know if being in good shape has anything to do with it how well the injury heals.
It does I had ACL surgery 2 weeks ago. Saw 3 doctors for it. All of them said the same thing, if you're in better general health, you can rehab quicker and better. The reason is taht the body can handle the stress better, and you are healthy and strong enough to handle the rehab. Yes it will still take a while for the exact injury to heal, but overall health does play somewhat of a role. at least for an ACL - and I assume it's the same for an ankle.
any doctor you talk to before you do an acl (and I've talked to dozens while I put off doing mine) will tell you that for an acl at least, the stronger your leg muscles are, esp. the thigh, the better and faster you will recover because you will have less atrophy, or the atrophy will have less effect. As to an ankle break - no idea. But I'm talking about how quickly your game recovers, not your injury. If you are in very good shape, you can be away from full training longer than if you are in mediocre shape.
