Getting updates on Livescore.com. Faroe Islands up 2-0 now... another goal by Petersen in the 12th minute.
Its not harsh its deserved, we have been god awful, a team containing premiership and SPL players totally outclassed by a bunch of farmers and students. Utterly utterly toothless.
Updated reports... Not play by play, but updated match commentary: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/2238161.stm "1545: The Polish referee brings an end to perhaps the most embarrassing 45 minutes in Scotland's footballing history"
The faroe manager, danish former international (and member of the 92 Euro gold team) Henrik Larsen, said this to danish press before the match: "We can win. Four years ago we played a draw against Scotland, and a lot of those players are still on the team. And the scots had a better team then than they have now. We watched Denmark defeat Scotland, and there seems to be a weakness in the defense, that we should be able to exploit." He also said they will not back down, but try to keep the play on the scottish side of the field. Seems like he knew what he was talking about (now 57 minutes and till 2-0).
7 minutes into the second half, still Faroe Islands 2-0 Scotland. I hope Scotland gets to host the 2008 Euros, since it's going to be a tough road for 2004, since the Tartan Army guys I saw interviewed on Skysports last night were pretty confident of 3 points from this one, and hopeful of 6 from this match and the one against Iceland.
Re: Updated reports... Not perhaps IT IS the most embarrassing! Iam so shocked watching this its unbelievable how crap we are.We have pulled a goal back now though.
The Scotts get one. 1616: Faroe Islands 2-1 Scotland - Paul Lambert's shot ricochets into the net to give the Scots a barely deserved lifeline
Youre not kidding How we managed to play so badly and so disorganised I will never know. also his selection of players not playing in the premiership over players performing in the SPL needs looking at after the introduction of one of the said SPL players brightened us up in the second half. Get Maloney on, get Burchill on and get Miller on and let them run at teams. There is nothing positive I can take from this today.
The soccernet match summary. Headline: "Vogt's Horror." http://www.soccernet.com/europe/2000/20020907/reports/60614_full.html It's worth clicking on the "Related Story" about what Bertie will not accept any more.
After the Matt Elliott red-card 1-1 result in 99, I figured Scotland would win this one--but it looks to have been even more of a debacle. The Faroes have a total population of 47,000. I'd say the Tartan Army will want to wear their jimmyhats reversed after this. Maybe Scotland has a shallow selection pool, but that doesn't mean that Voigts isn't somehow out of his depth.
I know this sounds crazy, but this is not Vogts' fault. These kinds of performances have been coming for years - I'll give Brown some credit, he hid our inherent deficiencies fairly well for a while - but the problems are fundamental. 1/ Our best clubs don't play our best young players 2/ We have an uncompetitive league 3/ There has been hardly any investment (apart from Murray Park) in proper facilities These problems MUST be addressed NOW.
