for the love of god please anyone but him PLEASE EVERYTHING I hate about greggg....is exactly the same with southgate! i can see why an english guy like crocker who absurdly wanted to keep gregg might be enamored with southgate..... but holy f**** this would be the worst hire in usmnt history, if it happened im stunned that there are actually usmnt supporters who may think it would be a good idea to get gareth hes soooo so bad. tactically inept. very poor at picking rosters/lineups/subs/ gregggg copied him basically......we would see a similar or worse usmnt with southgate as we saw with gregggory. if he becomes teh choice, the players MUST reject this LOSER i'm begging.
this would be such a slap in the face to USMNT fans "the USSF would basically be saying we were on the right track...eveything was perfect.....we were forced by irrational fans to get rid of our perfect coach.....but now we got the guy who can keep things going as planned and continue with greggs plan and identity" which is a good chacne they are actually seeing it like this.....SMH It would literally be INSANE to think like this...but I have a feeling this is how they see it. he's basically the same coach as gregg!!! GREGG's plan was a huge part of the problem though! tear it down and rebuild.....PLEASE.
You'll probably find a lot of people who agree with you here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/next-coach-2-0-2024-26.2131430/
People wanted Berhalter gone. He is gone. Cannot complain if this is the best available guy out there.
Southgate is the English Berhalter. Maybe, I could be wrong. I just wouldn’t start with a lot of optimism with him.
Gregg got to TWO Euro Finals and a WC Semifinal??? I understand some of the criticism. The guy gets results in a results oriented business. Not onl;y that, he got results in UEFA and on the World Cup stage. There are far worse options out there. Plus I wouldn't worry too much about him taking the US job, he'll have much more lucrative offers to manage club teams in England.
People have just decided to whine about our next hire before we've even hired him. Southgate had the highest salary at the recent Euros. He'd have to take a massive paycut to coach the USMNT. Maybe he'd do it. I don't know. He's exactly the kind of guy Crocker would hire, though.
What’s the point in accusing people of whining? People aren’t allowed to voice concerns or grievances without being attacked? Personally, I’d have my hesitations with a Southgate hire. I think/hope he would be a step up from Berhalter. Probably would be. But I definitely think it’s another situation where the player pool was better than the results with him in charge. That brings up the point that whoever the coach is, we need to look for someone who knows how to maximize the player pool.
Ya'll know that the second we hire the coach, we'll start a "Fire Coach XX" thread. Its what this board does. This time we've started one before we've even hired him! A preemptive strike!! Just the fact that we reportedly contacted him was enough.
England did not play that well this Euros but, do people remember England pre-Southgate? In the 2 previous tournaments, they finished last in their group in the World Cup and lost to Iceland at the Euros. He is England's most successful manager in 50 years and people talk about him like he was a failure.
Well, Southgate's record in regulation time in the Euro and World Cup against--- The Top-10: 3W2D5L The Top-5: 0W1D3L The draw in regulation was the Euro final against italy. Just in this past Euro, Spain had 4 wins against Top-5 competition. For a team that has had some very forgiving major tourney brackets during Southgate's tenure, it can't be said they've maximized opportunities. Well, if one believes they have a top-3 player pool in the world. Like Gregg, Southgate is a team culture guy. Like Gregg, he gets lauded for off -the-field work instilling a sense of comradery among the team. Also, like Gregg, there is a perception of underachievement relative to the talent level. Southgate didn't get grouped, but England were 30 seconds from getting knocked out by Slovakia. The US don't need another vibes coach.
yeah ive been banned from that entire forum.... (because I dont participate in the groupthink that the berhalter brigade forcefed us for years) I was able to see the results of the poll asking who people want as next USMNT coach and it was VERY depressing to see the picks of the us fans on here......
no way theres a lot of coaches I would be excited about getting it only seems like people are just going to complain no matter what because usmnt has had shtty coaches for decades
I don't know why I keep being surprised when people want coaches with the exact same attributes that they complain about in Berhalter.
Eleven Bravo, one of the rare times I disagree with one of your posts, but I think the English media has made them out to seem like such a talented pool. I just don’t think they are as talented as they are made out to be. I watched all their games and I just didn’t see the immense individual talent they’re supposed to have on the roster.
uhh yeah! a lot of people want southgate...and it is hnestly shocking a lot of them are some of the ones who hated berhalter! makes zero sense
The English are their own worst enemy when it comes to their National team. The high (and unrealistic) expectations, combined with the cynical media and bi-polar fans, create a toxic culture. Southgate has, given those conditions, done a wonderful job. Beyond that, he just seems like a good and decent man. But I don’t think he’s the right person for the USA job.
