http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTY2MDM3MzImeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2 Is it just me or does it seem that this guy has been mentioned since the start of the season regarding his inability properly call a match??
Here's a better question. Try to name one ref that DOESN'T suck. I could name many who are just as bad as Stott, if not worse. Alex Prus, Kevin Terry, the list goes on. Complaining about one ref won't get you anywhere, it's a problem throughout the league and the rest of the world.
OK lets just settle this now, all the MLS refs suck, they don't know the rules, kinda hard to ref a game if you don't know what's going on. I'm not a huge Stott fan right now because I think Earnie Stewart was offsides on that goal he scored, no real sense in whining about it now since it's not gonna change but he looked offsides to me, he must have been Johnny Walker wouldn't have gone to the half to argue it if he wasn't. Either way all the refs suck and should be fired and replaced by people who know what they're doing.
Yeah but refs in other leagues actually call stuff that actually happens and don't let games get out of control by not calling anything the first 60 minutes of a game so the players go on and do whatever they want and then all of a sudden they can't do it anymore and then they get frustrated and mad and start yelling and get yellow carded.
And just how long have you had YOUR FIFA badge? I'd like to see any of you go out there and do a better job.
Is it possible that soccer is just an incredibly difficult sport to referee? How can one ref possibly watch 22 players?
We all know that reffing isn't easy and that they can't call everything and can't watch all 22 players at once, but the refs in MLS are just horrible, it looks like they call stuff that doesn't happen sometimes. I don't expect the ref to watch all 22 players but he should be watching the one with the ball and the people around him. The refs in MLS let the players get away with anything in the first half but in the second half make all these outrageous calls that wouldn't have been made if they happened in the first half and they take too much sh!t from the players. Soccer (or any sport for that matter) isn't easy to ref but the refs in MLS are horrible, if you watch any other game the ref isn't nearly as bad as MLS refs, of course there are a few exceptions.
Im not saying I could do a better job, though I could. Stott IS the one with the FIFA badge, and he needs to back it up game in and game out. You don't need to run as much as the players to be effective, just make the right calls. Should a FIFA referee be charging into the penalty box (getting dangerously close to being inlolved in the play) to be able to make a call? No. But watch Stott do it every game he refs. Just cause you have a badge doesn't mean you're immune to critisicm.
But only ONE REF is tasked to make the calls. The assistants on the side 'assist' in calling the ball out (can still be overruled by the center) and offside (but the center makes the final judgement on that) and may also assist in various other infractions sparsely during the game.
After Saturday's game, from MLSnet.com: Misconduct Summary: MET -- Gilberto Flores (caution; Pushing, Holding) 6 MET -- Amado Guevara (caution; Reckless Foul) 18 DC -- Ben Olsen (caution; Reckless Foul) 27 DC -- Bryan Namoff (caution; Reckless Foul) 35 DC -- Dema Kovalenko (caution; Diving, Exaggeration) 41 MET -- Ricardo Clark (caution; Reckless Foul) 46+ DC -- Ryan Nelsen (caution; Reckless Foul) 61 DC -- Freddy Adu (caution; Reckless Foul) 86 MET -- Eddie Pope (caution; Tackle from Behind) 88 I bet fans on both sides would argue the other way this time, because fouls were definitely being called in the first half.
And just out of curiosity, if Stott sucks so much, how has he been named to the Finalist of Referee of the Year now for the 3rd consecutive time? And, I think he has a very good chance of winning it this year.
It's not surprising that the posters who actually ref and frequent the referee forum are a lot less critical than the average poster. I have refereed for 20+ years. I'm not as young or fast as I used to be, but I'm a better referee. I know that 80% of the time the CR has the best view of most foul situations. The other 20%, an AR may have a good view and sometimes none of the three have a great view. Having a 4th gives the reffing crew a view similar to the benches - which is sometimes useful. Anyway, in any foul situation there are lots of angles to view the situation, and sometimes the crowd or TV get a considerably different view than the CR. I sometimes wonder what the CR saw when he makes calls I disagree with, but I assume he made the call based on a completely different angle.
Hack - I'll be sure to tell some of my media friends this information, as I'm sure they'll appreciate hearing it. Please, get a clue!
Tell them, it will be good for them to hear. In fareness to them (media) though, they're options for nominees range from bad to horrible. Don't take it personally, just not many good refs out there.
