It's that time of year again...winner gets $1k from Section 8 Chicago to donate to a charity of their choice. Voting is open to everyone until October 31st! http://www.section8chicago.com/playeroftheyear Previous Winners 2010: CJ Brown 2009: CJ Brown
hard, but Sean Johnson was something else...the big guy between the posts turned a rough start into one hell of a year
Definately Oduro, without him we lose at least 3-5 more matches. SJ was to inconsistent to win it. Gibbs was good, but missed to many matches.
This was basically my thinking as well. If Sean were a veteran I think we would have been better in the back against set plays. I feel like we gave up a lot of goals on set plays.
Wait, is this the same Oduro who Fire fans whined about him missing so many easy shots and not scoring for games on end? Or does Dominic have a brother who also played for us? There were also plenty of games where would've dropped points because our offense took a holiday, our back line was a sieve and Sean kept us in those games. Aldi must hate the guy for costing them so much money. We need co-winners: Oduro AND Johnson. Either that or Pardo and Grazzini share it because our rebirth from August onwards was largely (but certainly not entirely) due to them.
don't generalize all Fire fans based on a few outlying complainers on the internet Even when the Fire won regularly there were fans who could always find something to moan about... bob bradley, ante razov, jesse marsch, logan pause it's strange that most Fire fans I meet at the stadium are unbridled optimists but on the internet they are more common ly pessimists
If he had been with the Fire all season, perhaps. I really do hope he stays with the Fire for 2012. Based on performance, I would choose: Grazzini- 11 games played, 5 goals (fourth on the team after Oduro, Pappa and Chaves), 4 assists (fourth on the team after Nyarko, Segares and Pardo). Really great stats and provides a presence in the middle that the Fire has not had in a while. However, I voted for Oduro.
That's why I chose Nyarko...he's been here the whole year...the bad times and good, and he has proved himself worthy of the SPotY award from his ability to steal the ball from defenders and keepers, to beating defenders one on one, to maintaining possession, to winning free kicks and corners, to his unselfish play, to leading the team in assists, and making it possible for Oduro to thrive here...for me, he is the MVP...but I do think from a standpoint of who would gain the most from the award as far as gaining confidence going into next year, and yeah, Oduro would be that man... I would also nominate Pause and Johnson...
The winner has been announced, and while it's not surprising it was Oduro, the vote was VERY close. As the 2011 Supporters' Player of the Year, Oduro will receive a commemorative plaque along with $1000 toward a charity of his choosing from Section 8 Chicago - Dominic has selected Nothing But Nets. Section 8 Chicago will honor Oduro with a brunch-time ceremony and gathering for all Fire fans on Saturday, November 12 at the Atlantic Bar, 5062 N. Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. International matches will be on the TV screens and we'll be making the presentation to Dominic at half-time of the England-Spain game, approximately 12 noon. All fans are welcome and encouraged to attend!
Im glad Oduro won, to me it had to be him I could only imagine how awful our attack would have been without him. Re-signing him needs to be top priority this off-season as I believe his contract is up.
BUMP. Hope to see some of you tomorrow, come out and say hi to Oduro. It's all-ages, by the way, bring the family. Food there is good.
newbies I didn't moan about Pause when we were winning regularly. Same for Oduro. When they stepped up their game, and in the case of ||, when they were freed from a bad position to be playing to begin with, we started winning with any sense of regularity. In fact, don't remember moaning about him very much at all. I knew he was overdue and would score, unlike Andy Herron or Chad Barrett.

Who else is coming? Oduro is an incredibly friendly fellow. Definitely worth the time to visit, bring the kids. He's a great, great person. I hope to see some of you there.
