I’m sure it’s been discussed so excuse my ignorance as I don't have time to sift through the threads...

Why isn’t Tanner Tessmann on the current USMNT?

Is it because he was still playing in Serie B or is it because he will be on the Olympic team later on this summer?

Yes and prob view him as competing at 6 with Johnny, Tyler Adams and Musah.

From what I've seen, he's better than musah who doesn't exactly have a set position.
Don't want to say anything about Tyler because my thoughts might upset some people.

With the exception of when Juventus played there, in Italy anyway, Serie B players were rarely considered for national team duty.

The USMNT as well as other national teams are different though but I’m thinking Tessmann is good enough to play in both the Copa and Olympic competitions.

Well, I kinda wish Thomas Wolffe and Walker Percy were running the government, but alas... I will leave this alone, but simply leave you with two words: Tommy Tuberville...

But we really are way off topic, and all from a casual quip, so let's hope there's more concrete Tessman news soon! I kind of hope he stays in Venice, just cause I like Venice, but from a footie perspective a Turin or Napoli is a better, safer choice.

he is good enough, but there are others ahead of him at the 6 position. Johnny (real betis), and Tyler Adams (bournemouth)

Musah has a position, but he had to play wherever he was needed at Milan because of injuries and crappy play by some other players.

I like the Turin option since the coach he had at Venice just moved there and wants to bring him. Would not have to prove himself as he already knows and values him. Going up a level that could help a lot.

In addition to what others have mentioned about the competition at CM, he was really bad in that friendly against Uzbekistan(?) last fall. I like Tessmann a lot, but he was way too slow in processing the game in that friendly, though he did grow into the game a bit as it went on. That performance definitely made it seem like he needed more development before he was ready for the full national team, and a leading role at the Olympics was the way to go for him.

I think depending on how he looks at the Olympics and how he looks in Serie A, he could start getting integrated into the senior team this fall, but again, there's serious competition. If Adams is healthy and Cardoso more of a 6 than an 8 (both of these of question marks), then Tessmann will have to make his case as an 8 and beat out De la Torre or Musah.

Another question involving TT. If he does get a transfer before the Olympics, will that club even allow him to play in the Olympics? Does Venezia allow it if teams are circling, the "I" word ruins any potential move.

Selfishly, I want to see him at the Olympics.

    They may not.

Unlike FIFA competitions, a club is not obligated to release a player for the Olympics, and they may not wish to risk injury especially if the club he is going to is spending a lot of money on him.

Which then brings us back to another hypothetical discussion....

How can FIFA have so much say in the Olympics in the form of obligating it an U-23 competition and then in turn, not allow clubs to release players?

I mean first they dictate on whether it’s a youth tournament or not and then they give their authority to block clubs from releasing player for the competition.

It’s kind of a contradiction in my opinion.

Not sure if you're actually posing the question or just leaving that out there.

If you're actually asking the question - none of us know what any future club will do regarding letting Tessmann play in the Olympics.

We don't even know for sure Venezia will let him go - but the course of conduct so far seems like the would.

The Fed doesn’t like asking players to do double duty. Really rare.

In a way, I see their point as there is no money in the Olympic tournament for FIFA.

A lot of federations don't like it but i've seen many teams picking players for double duty over the years.

In 2004 for example, both Andrea Pirlo and CR7 were picked for both completions.

Just putting it out there. TBH, I don't even know if the roster has been put out yet.

Olympic roster is suppose to come out mid-late July I think.

I think that's what they said during the Japan game broadcast.

I might be remembering wrong though.

According to this piece Inter is even more interested in Torino's central defender, Alessandro Buongiorno, but his asking price is quite high: €35M minimum. So they are considering the possibility of buying Tessmann and selling him on to Torino in order to get Buongiorno at a lower price.

The article also claims Tessmann doesn't want the Inter transfer if it means spending next season with Venezia.

Kinda wild how late it is but with all the release stuff and transfers I guess it’s necessary.

I agree, definitely the best option by far. What would you estimate they’d need to pay for him?

Not sure Venezia want to lose him right now and why they liked the Inter loan back.

Venezia doesn't want to lose him, but his contract expires in June of 2025. So it's either renegotiate his contract (unlikely with so many suitors), get some money for him now, or let him walk away for nothing on a free contract next year.
