"Best show on television" returns tonight. I'm pumped. The whole arc about Paige discovering here parents' identities has made the show so much more interesting. Interesting how in one of the trailers they show Stan pinning up Phillip against the wall. Should be a great season.
So glad this is back! What exactly is Pastor Tim playing at with asking Paige to find out more about what her parents do? I wasn't convinced by the ease with which Martha seemed to accept Clark/Philip's murder of her colleague. I briefly thought she was playing a double game, but it seems like the information she gave to the Jenningses is for real.
I think Pastor Tim is a deep cover CIA agent. It was a bit odd how easily Martha accepted the murder. Only thing I can think of is that she was so head over heels in love w him that she'll do anything. I got a close friend who was a Navy Seal and he told me that even though the Cold War ended, the Russians still have a heavy intelligence presence inside the US.
i've been looking forward to this coming back on for a long time now. such a great show. i too thought martha gave in a little too easily. i did like her performance right after philip told her what he did.
So they find out about Paige telling Pastor Tim by bugging her phone? Did I miss something in a previous episode? Wow, Nina's husband married way out of his league! The bus scene was intense. I guess Paige's revelation leaves them between a rock and a hard place. Either they still go ahead with their plan to kill Pastor Tim in the knowledge that Paige will almost certainly figure out what happened. Or they spare him and risk having their cover blown.
Ahhh. I shouldn't have looked at your post. I forgot that you are 6 hours ahead so the show gets aired ahead of time. I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode.
Thoroughly enjoyed episode 2. I was really surprised at Elizabeth's response to Philip about attending the retreat. Philip still seems to be portrayed as the softer one, but the bus scene quickly dispelled that notion. I really like the story revolving around the biological weapon. Stories like this in the show provide some balance and allow viewers to not quickly denounce the Soviets as the "bad guys." It's quite the cliffhanger w Pastor Tim. I think they will kill him.
Another great episode. I can't believe I didn't think of the going on vacation while someone else kills Pastor Tim idea. Now that Elizabeth and Philip have to stay, it should be real interesting to see what's going to happen. They're obviously not going to run because it would end the show. Nice to see that Stan is onto Martha. About time someone from the FBI got onto her!
Their plan was incredibly flawed even before the setback with the virus. Lets say that everything had gone according to plan. Philip argued that Paige would have figured it out eventually. But I think she would have figured it out almost immediately. They decide to go on a family vacation completely out of the blue and just at that very moment, something happens to Pastor Tim and his wife?
It is possible that Paige would figure it out, but I think she would still have to be unsure about it. Paige doesn't have a clue about how extensive the Soviet intelligence apparatus is in the US. Moreover, she doesn't comprehend how lethal Philip and Elizabeth are. Remember she was like "do people get hurt in your spy work?" and Elizabeth was like "no, absolutely not" Paige seemed to go along with that lie.
Wow, really enjoyed last night's episode. It was thrilling seeing how Elizabeth and Gabriel were affected by the illness. I'm so pumped that Stan is finally getting suspicious about Philip and Elizabeth. The show has made the US intelligence community look weak, glad to see that they're showing we have some clever agents as well. It's amazing how the show makes you sympathize for the Jennings (who are the enemy) yet at the same time they show you how ruthless they are with the scene at the end with Nina.
I had the feeling that I had missed something in a previous episode when they showed Anton suddenly in Moscow. Did I? It's easy to take Noah Emmerich for granted, but he really is a wonderful actor. The scientist guy only cut off the receiver from that pay phone. But what about the buttons? Or was Elizabeth using gloves when she dialed the number? Nina's death was shocking. Damn that was cold. Especially after the little dream about her release along with the kidnapped stealth technology guy.
Anton was in Moscow because his brother died in Soviet Afghan war. I agree about Emmerich. I can't remember what happened with the pay phone, but I was thinking the same thing about the buttons. The Nina execution was extremely cold. She came clean to them and tried working Stan, she definitely did not deserve to get punished the way she did. I wonder how the Russians perceive this show? I wonder if they consider it Western propaganda?
This is definitely not a Western propaganda. In fact it makes Russians seem warmer than how things really were. The bullet to the head was the calling card of KGB in Lubyanka. Probably no other country that has the most disregard for human life of its own people than USSR.
Yea, I took a Soviet history course at university and the professor revealed several deplorable things to us that the Soviets did to their people. It seems that the only people their who live well are the politicians and intelligence agents.
I guess no one is convinced yet that Pastor Tim and his wife are safe? They wouldn't have shown Chekov's electrical heater if it wasn't going to feature somewhere along the line. What was your interpretation of the final scene? I thought it was a way for Elizabeth to reassert herself after she (once again) had to witness Phillip's quite obviously real feelings towards Martha.
Good episode. I can't remember the last scene. It does look like Martha is fed up with all the shenanigans. She's usually the one who's head over heals in love with Clark, but last night when he said "i love you" she just said something like I'll see you Tuesday. I was totally fooled by the El Salvadoran priest. That was a very clever angle played by the KGB to try and work Pastor Tim.
The last scene was Elizabeth coming onto Phillip right after they were discussing Martha. I'm not entirely convinced that Pastor Tim bought the priest's story.
I wouldn't be surprised if the KGB throws Martha under the bus. It might make Philip abandon the cause. I agree with you about Pastor Tim. Judging by his facial expressions he seemed skeptical about the priest.
I am starting to see the outlines of an overarching theme for this season. The futility of people in their position trying to help or save someone. Nina tried to help the scientist and paid for it with her life. Oleg tried to save Nina only to fail miserably. Now we have Phillip and Elizabeth attempting to save (in different ways) Martha and Pastor Tim.
Last night's episode was intense. The Martha story arc is getting really suspenseful. I feel really bad for Martha. She was played by the KGB and now she's in an impossible situation. I'm predicting that Philip is going to have to kill her.
Martha's gun will almost certainly feature in the resolution of her story line, though probably in a more original way than her being shot with it. She probably changed the KGBs strategy for her by threatening Gabriel like that. They cannot afford to have her tell the FBI everything she knows about them.
Yea, it really looks like Martha is toast. For me the look in Gabriel's eyes said it all when she stormed out of the house and called him out for being KGB. I really think that Martha getting killed might push Philip over the edge and may tempt him into becoming a double agent.
