It seems Peter Nowak was in the habit of spanking players while coaching both at DC United and Philly. Here is a section on Nowak hazing rookie players. It is a bit graphic. pic.twitter.com/t3Y21kXTPv— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) January 6, 2016 And there's even more crazy stuff in Tannenwald's timeline. Reading through it all, basically, Nowak is a psychopath.
Read the rest. He thinks concussions are bullshit. He forced injured players to run for miles. He denied players water. When I said he's a psychopath, I meant it. The documents Tannenwald got his hands on are are really something else. -- Oh, and you know who was a rookie under Nowak? 684541101835993089 is not a valid tweet id
I guess Twellman should've played in Germany since according to Nowak they don't get concussions there. What a prick.
The Union as an organization shouldn't be let off the hook, either. They allowed him to break league rules consistently and let him continue doing it. They paid fines on his behalf, but never looked like they tried to truly stop him.
You talk about violating your contract by looking for other work, you talk about contacting Shep Messing for work in Europe and Asia.
An excerpt from the filings: Peter Nowak's opinion of concussions, and the MLS Players Union's view of him. pic.twitter.com/yqQ8NLSfsj— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) January 6, 2016 Tannenwald got a hold of the Nowak lawsuit against the Union. Go follow his timeline as there is some amazing stuff in there. Like the above and this: Here is a section on Nowak hazing rookie players. No. I am talking about Nowak coaching the US Olympic team and being Bob's assistant with the USMNT. BTW, I think his US Olympic team looked the best of any US teams over the last decade.
i've never felt adu really was ever in a good situation club-wise, maybe in his whole career...mls or Europe.....and every time he is talked about now the first argument is how can that many coaches be wrong about the same player???....well.........can people put a little less blame on freddy adu not "making it" in MLS now? Nowak coached freddy for multiple seasons in dc AND philly....jeez...this clown......
Duh, kids don't like being spanked! Play well, no spankings. Play poorly, and Nowak turns into Oprah: "Everybody gets a Spanking!"
he did...no doubt. i said less blame.....but he was also pretty unlucky to never get a good fit club-wise....he played well against the likes of brazil (never forget that assist to altidore in u20!) and spain etc (full national team) internationally....who else can we actually say that about????..I think everyone puts all the blame at Freddy's feet but Nowak was basically adu's lifetime MLS coach....no wonder he didn't succeed with those types of shenanigans going on.......remember, Bob Bradley was basically on the verge of making him a central squad member before he was fired....
i disagree- freddy was over-hyped by the soccer PR types who called him the next pele when he was 15 years old- a ridiculous statement from people who rarely even kicked a soccerball- its not adu's fault- he was/is a limited talent player- i saw him in an exhibtion game in seattle with DC United vs either celtic or man u in the early 2000's- after watching freddy for 20 minutes, i turned to my son and said he will never make it as a top or even mid-level professional player- he was a 1 trick pony with a half-decent left foot what is surpising to me is just how many teams around the world have spent money on him for getting so little back- he is a lucky guy IMO- made millions on amateur talent- cant blame him for that BTW- freddy never claimed to be the next pele- it was all made up by stupid, naive people who wanted to create a player that the US nation would be agog over and help sell soccer
You used this exact same text last week and multiple people pointed out the factual inaccuracies with it (not to mention judging a player on 20 minutes of exhibition play from 40 rows up).
Methinks this is worth its own thread; parsed out from the daily news thread and the offseason discussion thread.
I read the rest of the tweets before I posted. It's some really ********ed up shit. I don't think I want to read more.
.....I followed him very closely on and off the field wherever he went. Nowak aside....Freddy still had plenty to do with it. Of course, I never bought into all the hype either.
Finally, something interesting to talk about during this off-season! It's what I would have expected if Vladimir Putin were a coach.
Nowak grew up in Communist Poland. What do you expect? Warzycha grew up in Communist Poland. You perform or you get hauled off and they never see you again. Many former Crew rookies couldn't get over the fact that Warzycha had no heart. See Rich Balchin or Cole Grossman. Point is, professional sports are for tough guys despite how incredibly weak many of the supporters can be.
are you seriously defending physical abuse of players? I can understand making players do laps for screwing up but spanking them? that's a no no
No one has ever suggested this was sexual. I'm fully against sexual abuse. It was initiation for rookies to become part of the group. I'm not defending Nowak, but to suggest he's the only coach to ever do this, or that it's unheard of, is to deny history. Even though that is extremely popular these days.
