a lot of club and national team activity I believe the National team has scheduled a friendly with Sweden early on in January. There is no excuse for losing in Costa Rica. That game is Feb 9th. 8 of our clubs will be participating in the Interliga on January 2nd. Then, the league starts January 15th. More than a month to prepare.
Ha so much for the US freezing us out again...over in the us men forum they had really been looking foward to that... I like the schedule, its tougher at the beginning, but we should be able to handle that rather well and then in the last 3 games, 2 are at home and the last is at T&T... we should be able to get 9 points in those games if needed
I love how we're going to lose at Azteca for the 2nd time ever in our 2nd match of this Hex. Blah. Maybe it's just me but we should take all 30 points this time around. No margin for error.
Would you be willing to sacrifice the first two matches to get Hugo in the national team.. A loss at Costa Rica and a home draw to the yanks with the paper bag wearing Americanistas chanting "Ole" everytime the gringos make a back pass and Lavolpe will be out of a job..
we need to get rid of him NOW hell, Lavolpe is using Hugo's boys, why not use Hugo anyhow. I while back i read an interesting bit about how Hugo was helping Lavolpe more than hurting him because of the players he would produce for him
That aint happening.. The only time i felt a coach needed to get sacked before the start of the HEX was when "He whos name must not be Mentioned" was in charge. He had done terrible in tourneys and friendlies that it was just disaster waiting to happen. I dont think Lavolpe will have the same problems, he has every position covered and i am sure he will do a good job.. However doing a good job doesnt mean he will keep his job. Bora Milutinovic did a great job and he got sacked for drawing two games at Azteca.. So i guess my question is should Hugol be coach of the MNT during the HEX or after it when we have secured a ticket to Germany..
At this point I think it best to give Hugo his proper due. I would rather see Hugo get 4 solid years to get the team together instead of tossing him in there ala Aguirre.
No draw at home against the U.S. Come match time, I don't care if Lavolpe's still the coach. We should win, win, win. I say give Hugo the team after the bicampeonato and let him prove his might. He doesn't need a full 4 year term, as he has the world to conquer. He can always come back after Madrid, you know? The way I see Lavolpe, he does a dreadful job with what we have. Having said that, he should still be able to produce a "good display" (at least to VS and like-minded people) despite the inconsistencies in his school of football. This CONCACAF cycle seems inferior to the last two. GUA, CR, PAN, T&T and USA = Nothing intimidating at all when considering their level of play and/or recent form. Like I said, no margin for error.
You guys are being too mena with lavolpe, he is good, not as good to fulfill everyones dreams, but he is good. I like Hugo and the pumas, but do you really think Hugo can take us to win the world cup????? i doubt it. but let's see what happens.
Agree with what you say. I just wish people would start criticizing the players as much as they criticize the coach when things get tough. The coach has always been the scapegoat. I think people's expectations of what mexico does is way to high. There will be tough games and points will be lost. To think it is just going to be a cakewalk is unrealistic. Will Mexico qualify, yes. But if all of the superpowers can lose games and struggle at times, why should Mexico be any different ???
do you think we can win the world cup with lavolpe as head coach? lavolpe...that whiny little b'tch? please.
Players win the games, players win the championchips. If we haven't won anything up to this point or continue to not win anything, its more because our players are simply not as good as other teams. The reason we don't have the players necessary to win is because fuerzas basicas are virtually non-existant. To say that LaVolpe (or any of the other national team coaches we have had since the beginnings of the World Cup) is the reason we can't win is giving the national team coach WAY too much responsibility. That responsibility belongs more to a corrupt system that does does nothing to develop and better the quality of the mexican soccer plaer.
We do criticize the players and we criticize the coach for having certain players... how many more chances is Osorno, Chato, Valdez going to get? they have failed to convince. We know that players play the game, but a coach can make a difference. A coach can establish a conducive environmnt to grow and prosper as a team.
You're correct that a coach can make a difference. He is the one that chooses the team and gives it its style. Those decisions can and should be questioned when things don't work out (something you've done, sometimes I think a little too eagerly.) You've mentioned in other threads that sometimes Mexico might send a B or even C team. From MY viewpoint, I just don't see the A team (name your players, whomever you want) being all that superior from the B or C teams. There are no huge gaps or dropoffs in talent. Thats why I say it really doesn't matter all that much who the coach is, the results will always be pretty much the same (as they have been for the past 15 years)
That's exactly my point. If Lavolpe can't take us to play in the world cup semi finals or finals, do you think hugo can?? I think they are pretty well evenly matched. I would rather have Hugo, cause so far he has a better record, but lets face, how much would the difference be?
Right, he is so good that he wants naturalized players on the NT, he's also good at making promises and failing to deliver. He is also good at threatening to resign and failing to do so. Oh yeah Lavolpe is good. At least Hugo wouldn't put naturalized players on the NT. Besides I'd rather have a Mexican citizen as the Coach of the Mexican NT than a whinny little Argie.
I would definitely have Hugo as the head coach as well. and not cause cause he is Mexican, cause if Mexican can't do the job what's wrong with bringing some one who can? specially some one that as much mexican as anyone else, cause he has been living there for more than 20 years. anyway i do think Hugo would do a better job, but i'm not sure of how big the gap would be between both of them. and about the naturalized players refer to my previous comment on the subject.
Hugo can be as much of a prick as LaVolpe. And as much of a hypocrite. Hugo is always saying that Mexican players are as good as the extranjeros and that the extranjeros take up places of Mexican players. Yet when it comes down to it, Hugo signs as many extranjeros as the rules allow. Don't say one thing and do another .... And as much as you're right about LaVolpe being a whiny little Argie, Hugo is just as whiny little ----. As el amigo Potter said in one of his posts, there is not much of a difference between the two !!!
When did Hugo say that the MFL should be all Mexican? If he did say that and does play foreigners.. yeah.. he is a hipocrit. But thats just another way to attack Hugo. Who was Parejita Lopez? Who was Kikin Fonseca? Who was Jaime Lozano? Who was Sergio Bernal? Who was Gonzalo Pineda? Who was Gerardo Galindo? Who was David Toledo? I am not saying these guys will be the next star, but Hugo does work with the Mexicans and the youth.
That's true, Pumas is producing the best strikers for the National Team. I hope Parejita Lopez get's called for the National team, he had a great game. He came in late and did a great job, perhaps he'll be the next star Also you should use, is rather than was, cause they ain't dead yet.
I didn't mean to imply that Hugo said that the MFL should be all Mexican 9 I aplogize if I misworded my argument.) What he has constantly and rightly said is that there are way too many foreign slots in the league. If he works so well with the youngsters as you say, why doesn't he give and lead by example then ??? What bothers me about this whole Hugo vs. laVolpe argument is that when LaVolpe says something, people are waiting and anticipating for him to slip up and when he does, bam !!!! Hugo says similar things and I never hear the same criticisms. I wish people would call Hugo out as often as they do with LaVolpe ... Another example: This year when Pumas played the Libertadores, he asked for the MFL to help the Mexican teams who were participating and reschedule the league games if necessary because they were representing el futbol mexicano. Oh yeah ??? Why then two years ago when AMERICA played the Libertadores did he change the second semi final game in CU from Sunday to Saturday to take advantage of AMERICA playing thursday against monarcas in la copa and have AMERICA have as little rest as possible. Where was el apoyo al futbol mexicano then ??? I guess its only when Hugo wants it does it matter ... I don't care if people criticize LaVolpe (and there is alot to criticize ). I just wish people would judge Hugo with the same standards as they do LaVolpe ....
