If I were forced to play on that piece of ********, I'd sue. It's clear that the players were really hampered by the condition of the field. Not only was it easily tearing up with every step, but players were sliding all over the place and could never get a sure footing. With both teams coming out looking like they wanted to play high-octane, and having to settle for a broken-down VW bug because of the playing surface is insanity.
The Playing Surface.....Is worst than Houston Relient Stadium. Sorry to jump on the word association game.
There's something about the New Jersey atmosphere that doesn't allow grass to grow properly there, I suppose. Seems like everyone else get can a nice grass soccer field, but we can't get our act together. The MetroStars bitched about it on Saturday, so it was no surprise to see guys falling. The field was so bad that the Panama goalie in the following match actually slipped while punting the ball after a save and was down on the ground for quite a while.
Well it's sod, so it's not actually "growing" there. Not that it would have a chance with the air in the swamp there. And it has to be this particular sod, because I don't remember it being this bad in prior years during the Champions World series that were held there.
