If anyone thinks that Winter's game day coaching decisions are the biggest problem right now, think again. http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?3168-A-growing-disconnect recently it was reviled that Plata's transfer fee was 500k. A number set already before he was entered into the draft, and a number that everyone in the league knew, including Earl Cochrane. The only people that didn't know were Winter and Mariner because they came pretty much right before the draft, and Cockrane decided not to tell them about it. Now, according to this article, Cochrane and the "old guard" have been trying to undermine Winter and the "4-3-3 people" since they got here: Cochrane is a relic from an era that needs to be fully incinerated. The guy has no real background that would even suggest that he is qualified. And now this idiot is blocking the management from doing what they were hired to do? I can't even comprehend how he can do that and still have his job! And then of course there's Anselmi who has no ********ing clue what to do, and so he spends the club's money to hire someone else to do his job for him. As long as he's still here, firing the coach would be pointless because it'll be up to him to appoint a new one, and he has no ********ing clue how to do that.
Not surprised. This is the kind of thing that I and many others have been talking about when it comes to MLSE's dysfunction.
That's exactly what a sports-business person with no direct soccer experience ought to do. I really don't think Anselmi is the problem here, he hired Klinnsmann and brought in Winter, Mariner, et al, and aside from business decisions we never hear anything about him. Cochrane on the other hand, from everything you've said, sounds like a massive problem for the club.
Cock-rane is an appopriate name. I thought the Sturgis trade was the extent of most of the damage he caused but clearly I was wrong. This makes it a hell of a lot easier to have faith in Winter et al.
So, if I'm reading this correctly, Plata's $500k transfer fee comes off our salary cap inaddition to his actual salary? If that's the case, Plata is by far our most expensive player from a cap hit point of view. Hes's taking up almost as much cap space as two dps. No wonder nobody else touched him inthe draft.
We're either buying that way down with allo, or that's being split over the span of his contract. That probably puts him at around 200 thousand per year (wich is worse IMO)
Plata is worth 200K per year. He was the only thing worth cheering for before Frings arrived last year.
Some ideas and random stuff; 1. Changes for this year are too late, time to consider whether TFC continues with this current system and leadership or makes another drastic systemic change. 2. Sytems aside, we could always use better talent even when we are winning. So with that, we need to cut our ties to DeGuzman. If DeGuzman was earning $ 400,000 I wouldn't mind, but he is killing our organization by being the 5th highest MLS salary is just not helping our teambuilding. See DeRo who was underpaid and should have been kept over DeGuzman. 3. Reduce ticket prices, because the ground swell over the past few weeks has many ticket holders I know openly asking if they will renew for next season. 4. Cut prices inside BMO Field, because if TFC isn't doing it's part on the field with winning they should stop killing the golden goose with high prices. 5. Stop changing the damned uniforms every year. I'm not buying a new version of the uniform because it may be outdated next year as usual. 6. I like alot of what TFC has done to try and develop Canadian Footballers by giving them spots and having a great TFC Acadamy develop some young guys. However, I wish the TFC would continue to look at Europe to bring in talent from there so the young Canadian players can learn from them. I like guys like Frings and hope they can get guys from Italy, Spain, France, Portugal and other Euro hotspots. There are still alot of Toronto ticket holders with European heritage and they would be happy watching good quality Euros over cheaper options in South America of the USA.
Me too. It's nice to know who the boss is because you know where the buck stops. MLSE is a Corporation and by nature a Corporation is built to make profit and continue forever.
which is why I really hope they went to pay it off in one year and paid it down with a crap load of allo. paying a shitload for him this year, I can handle (since I doubt we'll be doing much this summer anyways). But having him tie us up in a JDG sort of way for the next three years is something that would really suck (to put it mildly).
Plata's a very young guy who, like a number of other players in the squad, is going through a tough time right now. Based on last year, he's earned the time to work things out.
Teams in Europe usually change every year. We should consider ourselves lucky because in MLS it's every two years.
Bits like this make me wonder how close to understanding MLS you are. so you say wouldn't mind JDG if he was earning $400k but do at his current salary? At $400k he would be a non-DP max salary guy and his impact on the cap space would be $400k....as it is, he is a DP and only $350k of his salary counts against the cap. So, far from "killing the organization" having JDG as a DP rather than a $400k guy frees up $50k of cap space.
They should let him go regardless. I think it's in the best interests of both parties to turn the page.
