USA draw Brazil 1-1 and improve its all-time record against Brazil to 1-1-18 (lol). A much improved performance from the beatdown several days earlier.
Intensity was there all game. Still some mistakes, but generally much more locked in. Helped that Brazil did not play well as a unit, but we stood tall tonight. Well done boys.
Much improved as expected. Turner MOTM. Productive set of friendlies with a reminder we could get rolled at the Copa and the historic tie.
Great response. Still too many mental errors, especially in the first half, but glad to see those errors decrease as the game went on. Ream and Turner both had good second halves, after having a terrible 135 minutes in these first two games. Berhalter deserves credit for understanding that we needed to defend and counter. Sure, it wasn’t as sexy. But it was more effective. Pulisic was my MOTM. Scally deserves a lot of credit for shutting down Vini Jr. Jedi rebounded very well. Good overall team effort. Glad to see the team prove me wrong that we’d get crushed tonight by playing with discipline and heart.
A friendly but one of the more entertaining ones I’ve seen in awhile. For me the important part is the response to the Columbia game in that they came out significantly better.
All in all, the type of performance we should expect going forward. Well done. The composure on the ball at times was excellent.
Maintained our defensive shape better without giving up anything in attack. Turner was great in the second half and miserably bad in the first half. Ream is showing a lot of signs that it's pretty much over for him. Reyna was the defensive MVP early. Scally was so much better all around tonight than ever before. Musah hits more wood than a lumberjack. Maybe one day he'll get it on the right side of the woodwork.
In this cycle, one player has risen to the occasion against each of Germany, Colombia, and Brazil. And that player is ...... Joe Scally.
Turner's best in quite a while. Defense overall quite good against a challenging attack - the amazing move to sub on Moore for Scally to "improve" on what had been happening almost cost us the game. Scally did really well against Vini - was he theoretically exhausted? Didn'd see that. Ream better second half than first. Jedi couldn't create anything. Midfield not what I hoped for in general. Johnny did OK, Tyler not enough touches. Musah needs to learn to read the game more - when he can get away with those vertical dribbling runs, and springing into action after a change in possession. Pulisic best field player. Pepi needs to find spaces, Weah with a number of nice athletic moments. Balo and Aaronson both failed to convert their best chances, though at least Aaronson forced good goalkeeping.
Fun game, but I wouldn't be too surprised if once again Brazil fails to make it out of group in a Copa held in the USA.
Fantastic bounce back. The best we’ve looked for 90 minutes in a long, long time. Great back and forth game, could have gone either way, with the caveat that Brazil got the usual benefit of the doubt on at least 2/3s of the calls (that’s a compliment to the referee, it’s usually 80% for Brazil). Outside of the bad decision by Turner on the goal kick, and the subsequent poor reaction by our defense, we were really, really good. Quick passing, lots of movement, quick to close down Brazil on defense. Several clear chances created. I realize this is our ceiling right now, but if we could see this USA most of the time we’re a clear level above where we’ve ben before. Great performance all around, the players, the coaching staff, etc. The best I’ve felt in a loooooong time as a US fan, even if it was a friendly.
I'm just glad Turner was aggressive with strong hands in the second half, unlike flapping a napkin at the bicycle kick on Saturday.
