I know Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich don't care for each other. What are the passionate regional/local derbies that make up German football? Please list what city/region they are located in. I look forward to everyone's responses. For example: List every club in the Bundisliga and who their rival/main enemy or derby opponent is.

    Thank you very much.

In the Bundesliga, anyways, I believe Shalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund is a big one.

Wolfsburg - has no rival, maybe Wolfenbüttel or Salzgitter ;-)
    Schalke - Dortmund
Stuttgart - Kickers Stuttgart maybe, or Freiburg and Karlsruhe???
hannover - Eintracht Braunschweig, Bremen, Arminia Hannover, Eintracht Frankfurt, Cottbus
Bayern - no one, or everyone ;-)
    Bremen - Hamburg
Bielefeld - no idea, maybe Dortmund? Münster???
    Leverkusen - Köln
    Mainz - Frankfurt?
Hertha - Dresden, many other berlin clubs
    Nürnberg - Fürth
    Gladbach - Köln
    Dortmund - Schalke
    Hamburg - Bremen, St. Pauli
    Bochum - Schalke, Dortmund
    Freiburg - Stuttgart?
    Rostock - Hamburg???

other well-known rivalries: Eintracht Frankfurt - Offenbach
dynamo Dresden, VFB leibzig and Lok Leibzig are big rivales
    Köln - Düsseldorf

many Clubs being in lower leages (Lok leibzig in 11th) means that most traditional derbies don't take place anymore... on spome cases good (eastern germany), in some bad (Hannover, btsv for example...)

Keith's Response: Dortmund v. Schalke is by far the fiercest rivalry in Germany.

After that, I'd have to say the next one is 1. FC Nuernberg v. Greuther Fuerth. However, Greuther Fuerth is a mainstay in the 2. Liga while 1. FCN bounces between the two top leagues.

Other notable rivalries involving 1. Bundesliga Clubs:

    Dortmund v. Bayern

    Bayern v. 1860 (Currently in 2. Liga)

Leverkusen v. Koln (Cologne - Currently in 2. Liga)

    M'Gladbach v. Koln

    Hamburg v. Bremen

    Hamburg v. Hannover

    VfB Stuttgart v. SC Freiburg

There are more, but I just don't have the time......

Actually Hamburg - Hanover used to be a rivalry, but now it is 'just' a derby, and both fanscenes like each other, especially the Ultras. That's not a rivalry anymore, Hannover Bremen is by far fierier, but for sure not the fieriest in Germany.
I think that the lower league's derbies are worse than those taking place in BL1.
In eastern germany ppl get huert because of riots, won't find that in 1st BL. Then Offenbach vs Frankfurt is real Hatred, whereas Schalke vs Dortmund and even Hannover vs Braunschweig is settling down a bit, from pure hatred to a respectfull rivalry...

I wonder why Schalke is not part of the G14? leverkusen is. is leverkusen more popular/richer than Schalke?

Keith's Response: I believe Leverkusen is only a bit richer than Schalke, but Leverkusen isn't anywhere near as popular as Schalke is. Leverkusen are only in the G14 through their consistent good showings in European competition.

Schalke doesn't have consistent good showings in European competition. Except for 1997, when they won the UEFA Cup, Schalke usually freezes up in Europe.

Maybe Schalke vs. Dortmund is the fiercest, but I have my doubts since the 1997 "Verbrüderung" after both teams won European trophies, which resulted in some weird local "Ruhrpott" patriotism.

I think this could not have been possible in the 1860 vs. Bayern rivalry, even if both teams had won European trophies. And in recent Bundesliga years (since 1994), the Munich derbies have always been the most colourful, entertaining and also ruthless ones. Dortmund vs. Schalke matches have been mostly lame in the same period.

Bayern has special rivalries with the following BL clubs, apart from 1860:

    Werder Bremen (since mid-80s)
    Hamburger SV (since late-70s, early-80s)
Stuttgart (due to being the two big cities in the South)
    Borussia Mönchengladbach (since late-60s)

Out of these four, the one with Bremen is the fiercest.

Leverkusen does not deserve to be in the G14. They're a nice club but one of the top ones in Europe ? No way, come on.

Leverkusen is not more popular than Schalke.
    Richer, not.

The G14 have only some rich clubs, Bayern Munich ManU and AC Milan.

Real live from the hand in the mouth, if they don't have that merchandise they were dead all over. And if they don't win so much titles like the years before, for them the death spiral begin. That's no joke. Real is a slave of Asian and North American merchandise. In Europe they are only a good club between hundreds other.
You see it in Dortmund, two years nothing and nearly bankcrupt.

It's a dance for some clubs on a vulcano.

Leverkusen in the G14 is funny, but they've the Bayer company behind and they give them money, but less every year.

Other fine clubs in Europe are'nt in why they don't won't.
Some clubs who have money going the slow way, growing slowly without panic. Mostly they owned by their members, and the members decide the way.

And I think that's the right way, the money the clubs spend is 50% by fans and or members. And they have traditional some things to say how the way goes.

I thing that's the better way.

Hehe, I know why PileD is on my ignore-list. If Schalke is mentioned he always shows up and... well... :D

The fiercest derby certainly is Dortmund vs Schalke. Bayern vs Dortmund is a big rivalry, too (as well as Bayern vs Kaiserslautern) but these arent derbies.
Another brutal derby that hasnt been mentioned yet, is Mainz vs Frankfurt. This is truely WAR! I remember the matches in Mainz when the Frankfurt Fans were throwing smoke-bombs and similar things... Frankfurt has some really weird fans. Same for Offenbach which makes this derby (Frankfurt vs Offenbach) the most brutal and "bloody" one in Germany, I guess.

It's a pity that Mainz apparently wont be able to play against Frankfurt in the 1.Bundesliga since Frankfurt seems to head to the 3rd Liga...

Well, the Frankfurt fans shot fireworx at fans of our team too couple of years ago (actually they shot it at handicaped persons sitting in weelchairs)... But I guess it calmed down because Frankfurt sucks atm (thank good!)

Bayern vs. Nurnberg can get pretty nasty, especially from the Nurnberg fans.

But I think the best rivalry on highest level is F.C. Schalke 04 e.V. vs. D... or Lüdenscheid West.
The others take power for the first divivsion.

OK, Munich is hated by all, excluded this w... of Bochum. But the rest hate them.

Have to say Eintracht Frankfurt v Offenbach is abit "tasty". Also Offenbach vs Waldhof Mannheim or Darmstadt 98. Also the Leipzig derby is not for the faint hearted!!

How can there be any real hatred between Bayern and 1860 when their lads fight together!!
That would never happen in England, cant imagine Man Utd and Man City fighting on the same side, or Spurs and Arsenal!!
