Hey all...I hope this helps everyone make their plans for this coming weekend. If you are like me, you'll be going to watch the game in costume, before proceeding on to Halloween activities. Huh? What the heck is that? This is not the regular Fox Sports Net? I was so happy when I heard Spartacus announce during the game that next match will be on Fox Sports Net. Are there any cable systems that get this channel? I don't see it on the Comcast list (even the newly expanded one) anywhere. Why does such a crucial playoff match for our local franchise need to end up on more and more obscure channels? Will the match be shown streaming live on mlsnet.com?
OK, so I went to this site: http://www.fsnplus.com and it claims that Comcast carries it in my area. But I don't see it on the official Comcast channel list, and I've certainly never heard of it before. I'm calling Comcast now to get a clarification on this.
FSN Plus is a channel that only exists when FSN Bay Area wants to show two events at once. They used it a lot when the Giants and A's were playing at the same time. In my area it's on channel 77. When there is no game on FSN Plus, channel 77 is something completely different. Pay-per-view previews, I think.
Yeah, this looks like one of the weirdest channels ever - only exists in transient nature. In my area, its slot is ususally used for free previews of other digital tier channels to entice customers. But when Comcast wants it, they preempt it with FSN Plus. At least, that's what they tell me. I'll take the word of people who have seen it (LochNess monster? Bigfoot? ) to believe that it exists. Hopefully I won't be disappointed. I'll also keep on lookout of the mlsnet.com streaming video status over the course of the week, and post it here for the benefit of out-of-towners.
Oh, FSN Plus exists (it's also 77 on my cable). During hockey season, several Sharks games were on FSN Plus when the Warriors were on regular FSN, and same for a few Giants/A's simultaneous broadcasts during the summer. Too bad FSN couldn't be bothered to use the extra channel for any of the recent non-televised Quakes away games, when college football was on regular FSN.
The game will also be broadcast on Comcast Digital Cable channel 449 via the MLS Direct Kick Package. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Great. That means it should also be streaming live on mlsnet.com . If a match is on the Direct Kick package, it is invariably on mlsnet.com (unless it's exclusively HDNet which is producing it, which is not the case for this match).
I'd advise that if the World Series returns to Boston for a Game 6 the Kezar is going to be packed with not only the college footy fans, but also baseball nuts and Missouri/New England expats whose pride ride on this game. We'll know by Wednesday presuming that the series is even at 2 game per if there will be a weekend game. Notwithstanding, big kudos to Fox Sports Net for putting this game on their Plus channel... I'd check to be very sure, but since the Kezar has Direct Kick, despite the crowds for that day that might still be the place. Now, inquiring minds want to know, which costume will you be wearing... Oh, and forgive me for being too quiet yesterday--not me usual self then... you get something this weekend... cheers!
FSN concocted the idea of Fox Sports Net Plus because they had numerous schedule conflicts but not enough programming (or Comcast channel clearances) to program a full second channel. It's a shared channel, so it won't appear on any regular Comcast listings (even when the program is in progress they don't change their on-screen guide to reflect). The channel location varies from system to system (I've gotten it on 33 before, but that's before I got the rebuilt system) so, as they say, "check your local listings."
I haven't been able to get into the FSNplus site, either. I called Comcast. In Orinda and probably Walnut Creek they are NOT showing any more FSNPlus games now that baseball is over. As a side rant, I've had Comcast for about two weeks and I already hate them. I had Astound before and that was good. But I could never understand all the griping about Comcast. Ohhhhh, now I see. Customer service? Bwahahaha! I'll be moving in a year or so and I will almost certainly get a dish of some sort when I do.
Astound is a good company. Everything I've heard about them from people who've got their service is good. Comcast's problem (or at least the one from which all others emanate) is that it is just too damned big.
Is that Dish channel the one that you have to buy as part of Direct Kick? Is one of the Fox channels on Dish? I have searched a bunch of websites and am hoping someone can help this clueless mom who grew up with 3 channels and a b&w television.
A 4 hour window for a visit from a comcast tech......and then you get a call informing you that they in fact will not be there for another hour and a half. Comcast ranks up there with ClearChannel as large corporations that I hate!
It finally showed up on my DishTV guide yesterday. Channel 446. The time is off, though, they've got the game starting at 1:30 (I set mine manually to the right time, though) Now, to answer (or not) TyffaneeSue's question, I don't know if that channel is restricted to people who are getting the DirectKick package or not. Anyone else who can give an answer.
Game is NOT restricted to DirectKick subscribers. It is being shown by FSN Bay Area on FSN + (on the channel numbers on DirecTV, Dish and Comcast which have been previously mentioned). On Comcast, it's usually channel 77 and it WILL be available on all local Comcast systems.
No offense, but when a Comcast rep tells me directly that they are no longer using "plus" now that baseball season is over and will not be showing the soccer game, I have to believe him. But I hope I'm wrong: Earthquakes beating KC starting at 5:30, followed by Cal beating ASU. Nothing but beer and junk food that evening, my friends.
That is where you made a wrong turn-- believing what a Comcast telephone customer representative says. They are totally undertrained and underinformed and ususally misinformed. I never believe a word they say. Customer service is a joke with Comcast (and not much better with DirecTV in my experience). Instead, I go directly to local management and get the truth. So, not to worry, just tune into channel 77 at 5:30pm on Saturday. This one will be on my VCR as I will be on my way to Memorial Stadium at 5:30, to watch Cal beat ASU in person. Go Bears!
Glad for the clarification. Since I'm a subscriber, I wasn't sure that it was open to everybody. The channel is in the same general area, 446. Open to everyone means even more joy.
It's moot now that the Red Sox has won the World Series... OK guys who did you think broke the curse? Seriousness here--we just have to deal with the college football crowd and costumed revelers... barring anything like last time, should be good.
I think that's a fair assumption, especially since it was announced at the stadium that there'd be a viewing party there...
You won't be alone, I assure you. In fact, it's probably best for you to get there as early as you can. Major event.
Solano/Yolo/Sac-At the Grad again? Anyone up for hitting the Grad again? I'll be bringing the family....
