Why don't the English go abroad?

I dunno why more English players don't go abroad to broaden their skills cause they clearly can't keep the ball and are tactically deficient. The media are always moaning English players and coaches aren't given a chance whats stopping them going to a good league like Germany, Spain or Italy. It doesn't seem to do the Dutch and other major football countries any harm, sheesh even Steve McClaren stock has improved after going abroad.

Well, several thoughts come to mind.

    In no particular order:
    - The English in general are not known for their interest in other countries of Europe nor for their ability to adapt to life outside the island or the US.
    - English clubs pay handsomely, even to unproven youngsters who subsequently feel no need to persue a career abroad and thus mostly end up either warming the bench for ManU and the likes or playing in some lower English league on loan deals. While they could/should be imporving their trade in some top division somewhere else.
    - English players in general are not particularly recognized (by major European leagues other than the EPL itself) for their amazing technical ability or their tactical awareness. And thus are not particularly sought after by teams in other leagues.

Bottom line: Young English players are, in general, barring some exceptions, just not good enough. As you also point out: not enough emphasis on the development of technical skills, tactical awareness and versatility when they are really young (8 to 15) and no incentive to go abroad once they make it onto a half decent English team (or bench).

    Just my view on things.

Well, some English players have\are played\playing abroad. However, as has already been mentioned the money in the English leagues makes it less likely for them to ply their trade elsewhere.

Also lets not try and pretend that this is mainly an English thing. In Germany the situation is similar, as in Spain if you take out their love affair with Liverpool. Look at the so called big 4 leagues Germany, Italy, Spain and England, and look at their national teams....all their players pretty much play in their home league. The good players from any other country will generally join one of said leagues.

The biggest problem? The EPL caters too much to buying foreign players. You want to improve your English talent? Instead of having 65% of the EPL be consisting of foreign players develop HOMEGROWN talent.
