Re: US Chapters in Mex City Great point, for those that went to Guatemala, we had a good showing in our section but only about 20 of us (that flew out there) did the yelling and singing. Most of us are pass the experience part of a trip. Now we go to support the team and get on the locals bad side.
Re: US Chapters in Mex City "Umm, excuse me, but could you sit down please? I can't see the field. And please stop saying the F-word?" ...and my all time favorite from the local American douches: "Haven't you ever been to a soccer game before?"
Re: US Chapters in Mex City Fair enough. I see your points. I shall withdraw my idea of networking with the expats who will add nothing to our atmosphere.
Re: US Chapters in Mex City Flights from Chicago Tu-Th are currently only $300 R/T, direct, on Mexicana thru CheapTickets.com. The bad thing is that people must have jumped on it right away, cuz it's only showing a few seats left...damn...(course, that may just be seats left at that price)
So yeah, heres the plan for this Mexican-American (although technically I'm just a Mexican with a green card, technically but I grew up in US). Root for Mexico in Columbus. Root for the US in Azteca. It actually makes sense, I've always been a natural contrarian. Plus I wanna be the asshole perched on the fence leading chants.
Starting this Spring, DIRECT FLIGHTS TO MX CITY from Denver Intl Airport by way of AeroMexicana Airlines.
Re: US Chapters in Mex City i was in guatemala and would like to believe i was part of the group signing and supporting our team. i wouldnt say that we are past the experience part of a trip or that the idea is to get on the locals bad side. the experience is essential to the trip. its about mixing with locals, supporting our team and being exposed to the culture of the home team. of course, singing and bringing home 3 points is a part of that as well.
Re: US Chapters in Mex City I was in Guatemala as well and I am with you in believeing the experience is important in addition to screaming for the team. In this trip I specially enjoyed trying to climb that damn hill to take a piss. However he is right in pointing out that the other group of Americans at the game did spend the entire match telling us to be more sporting.(damn Hippies)
Re: US Chapters in Mex City i completely agree with you. the trip itself is worth it. What I should have said was that to many of those fans, just the fact that they had a game ticket, that's supporting the US team. Don't get me wrong, it is. My first US game, I sat in the back just like they did, quiet and trying to watch the game. I'm greatful for any kind of support specially on away games. As to getting on fans bad side, I only meant that after we get our 3 points. God knows I'm the biggest chicken sht. what's up duke, you making it out to El Salvador?
Re: US Chapters in Mex City without a doubt....thats the away match im most looking forward to this round....
Re: US Chapters in Mex City Security wise this may the most concerning. The U.S. should get a win (rather easily if they put in any attacking ball IMO) and El Salvador hasn't made the Hex since '97. Of course they're pretty used to incidents there, so I'm sure you guys experienced in C.A. matches aren't too worried.
Would be nice to fly direct but showing $604 for Saturday to Saturday - fuk that! I'm in though and just hit the purchase button for my flights using AA miles via DFW. I sincerely hope they don't fuk with the dates.
We wish! Midweek game.. 500 US fans MAX.. and that's being generous. Do the maths: 500/110000 = less than 0.5%. Lame but reality.
At the 60,000 seat University of Phoenix stadium in February last year, there were no more than 1,000 USA fans and 59,000 Mexico fans. This was 3 hours north of the USA/Mexico border. So what % is 1 in 60?
