He’s in a tough spot because losing Gimenez who was not in great form to begin with leaves him with Ueda who is way out of his depth.
He really should put Wellenreuther on the bench as he’s been quite poor.
    I’m not a Bijlow supporter but he’s certainly better than Priske’s # 1.

Feyenoord up 1-2 over home squad Girona at the half. Their high press has created chances with one goal (Paixao to Milambo) and one missed PK (Ueda). Other goal was from a free kick, Paixao cross into Timber who headed it off a defender's chest and past the GK. Ruled an own goal.

Feyenoord finally grind out a win, 2-3. Girona had two own goals to assist, but they both came from aggressive Feyenoord attacking play so who cares?

The problem is up front with the totally useless Ueda. The guy can't get off a shot quickly and when he does shoot, the ball usually heads up into Rows 7 or 8.

Afterwards, Timber proudly showed the trophy for Man of the Match to his mother, who reserved another compliment for him. "You did a good job, honey."

:DAlways good to get mammy's seal of approval;)

  5. Van Basten was not positive about Ueda, who missed a penalty, among other things.
'We're not satisfied with that. He made so many big mistakes, at important moments he just didn't act well. The substitution was justified and I think that's a shame, because I thought he would do reasonably well at Feyenoord. He didn't make much of it today.'

Well, Ueda scored, but also managed to blast a big chance again into the stands.
First time in the Eredivisie a Japanese and Korean goal in the same match!

  7. Hwang is turning into a golden acquisition. Worrying is though a few key players like Paixaio are substandard for a couple of matches already.

Yes, Paixao has been substandard for much of late last season and this season also. But for some reason, Priske refuses to get Ivanusec involved. He was very creative in the early part of last season.

As for Hwang, can you imagine what would have happened in the past two matches if Zerrouki had been our midfield general?

Hwang made it into AD Sportwereld's Team of the Week matchday 8 and also with Voetbal International with the additional praise of player of the Week!

Priske acknowledges Ueda's problem: 'I expected a little more'
Brian Priske thinks Ayase Ueda lacks confidence. He agrees that he is not yet satisfied with the form of the Japanese player at Feyenoord.
"He has to believe in it himself."
With Santiago Gimenez out of action for the time being, Ueda will get his chance at centre-forward. Although he scored against FC Twente on Sunday, Priske was not entirely satisfied.
"I expected a little more from him. He scored a good goal and missed the chance to make it 3-0, but apart from that, he should have been stronger on the ball. Thomas Beelen looked for and found him a number of times and then you have to hold on to the ball to get out of the pressure.'
Priske is looking for an explanation for Ueda's form. 'With Ayase, it's a matter of trust. He has been at Feyenoord for a while now and for the first time he now has the feeling of being a starting player. This creates pressure. He proves that he has what it takes in phases and with Japan. It's my job to make sure he shows it at Feyenoord as well.' It's not because of his attitude, according to Priske. 'Ayase is a true professional, very disciplined, hard worker, takes perfect care of his body, never complains. And he really wants to. There are no problems in this area, so it comes down to trust. He has to believe in it himself, he has to feel the trust from his fellow players, something that he might feel a little more in Japan.'

According to Priske Stengs is still not back when we take on Ajax.
    Go Ahead Eagles
In addition to The Classic, Stengs will miss at least the away games at Benfica and FC Utrecht. And Saturday night's at Go Ahead Eagles. Priske can't call on Nieuwkoop, but also not on Gjivai Zechiël, who got injured this week with the Young Orange Squad.
"Go Ahead is a good team, especially at home," Priske said of the next opponent. "They have already achieved good results and made it difficult for Ajax, for example. They have a lot of attacking qualities and are dangerous from standard situations."

  13. After the match against Germany the way to get on your feet again:

"Now Benfica, we can take a lot with us," Timber smiled. He scored a wonderful goal himself. On the stroke of half-time, he shot the 0-3 against the ropes. 'At 0-2 they might have been able to score the equaliser, but now we dealt a blow. That's nice in Deventer, where it's difficult. The most beautiful goal came in the second half. Can I see it again? Gladly.' He was referring to the 0-4, where Ayase Ueda was the final station after a grandiose attack. "I noticed it right away, but you saw it at home. I think the fans enjoyed it. They've come all the way back here and then they get this game: a boost for us. I'm looking forward to Wednesday.'

Milambo, who because of Stengs injury got the chance to play and is showing great potential.

Tomorrow evening it's going to be a battle between the former Feyenoord midfield (Fredrik Aursnes and Orkun Kökçü) and the new one (Timber and Hwang).
