Probably because it was an (almost) sold out NFL stadium with lots of people celebrating a USA goal

I think the point of this commercial isn't to prove we're at least decent at the game, it's more to prove that there are a lot of people here who care about the game, contrary to what the mainstream sports media here may suggest.

    Welcome to BS manoa!

Does anyone think the increased push Nike is giving soccer advertising has anything to do with Adidas buying Rebok?

Adidas is getting bigger and stronger... does Nike hear footsteps?

They did it to personally annoy YOU. That's right, in the advertising meeting they said "what can we do that will piss off the prat white riot who posts on the BigSoccer board?"

And one of the ad execs said "maybe show USA v England?"

    Nicely done on their part.

I saw the ad while watching a Chapell show rerun on comedy central. Nice to see soccer stuff outside of FSC, Gol TV and FSeE.

I tried to Google the lyrics of the song in the commercial, but I can't seem to find it...the singer's voice does sound familiar... does anyone have an idea who it could be?

A confirmed soccer-hater would have to be pretty freaking dense not to catch on.

And why NOT fuel them--bring it on! That's the attitude of this GREAT commercial, after all.

This is from the other Bigsoccer thread going on about this Nike add:

"It's "Go Tell the World" by Joy Zipper off their album The Heartlight Set. It's from this year I believe."

Never mind, I saw the ad again and they definitely "enhanced" the crowd at Soldier Field.

I think Nike knows there is a soccer gold mine here waiting to be dug up. They sponser the usmnnt and the mexican and brazilian teams, so if they can get the US into soccer they got alot of money comin their way. So it's all good.

Caddisfly, always wondered who put that commericals site together. Two thumbs up. If I had other thumbs, I'd put those up, also.

    Re: New Nike Soccer Commercial

    I would assume because:

1.) They wanted to show a game with very good attendance in a large stadium on U.S. soil (unlike the mediocre attendance at most Gold Cup matches) since the theme is the growth of soccer's popularity in the U.S.

    2.) About 99.99% don't know that it's a friendly game that the U.S. lost.

3.) The USMNT did not have the most up-to-date Nike jerseys during the 2001 WCQ or 2002 WC. At the end of the day, this company is also trying to sell their gear. They're not going to spend all of that money on a commerical, and show yesterday's model.

There can't be many who haven't been exposed to this. I first started hearing it in elementary school, I think.

The commercial acts as an absolute F.U. to the U.S. sports climate in general. NIKE...please buy ad time for this during college and NFL football. I'd love to see the look on some beer swilling, hot wing devouring fat ass as this runs through his brain.

I have images of seething rage going through my mind. Football coaches going into convulsions. Tennis players, long distance runners crying. Baseball players twitching in fury.

I don't like Madison Avenue 99.9 percent of the time, but whoever came up with this is a genius.

It's not Rome, but it is a takeoff on him. And you bet your ass he knows it.
