there are small signs, I'd agree - but still a long way to go. eg yesterday (I think) he referred to some Repub as "your next governor" repeatedly, but the guy is running for the Senate. that'd be on a loop in the US media for 2 weeks if Biden (or Harris) did it - it gets buried in the avalanche of shit from Trump and hardly sees the light of day. also, frustrates me why the interviewers continue - after all these years - to let him offf the effing hook on simple things. "You keep saying Harris didn't pass the bar - of course she did, she was AG of California. But why did you pay a lawyer to intimidate {college he went to} to never release your academic records, which to this day we've never seen - what are you hiding?" "You keep talking about Kamala Harris' racial identity. Why is that important to her ability to be POTUS?" so yeah, small signs of improvement but still a long way to go.
That’s the thing though, like a balloon, once it’s pierced, it can never again be whole. Once the media and the public see behind the curtain, seriously question the charades, it’s over. He’s might be a good politician in one respect, but he doesn’t have a Plan B to which he can pivot to reinvent himself. He only knows the coarse, the insult, the lie. Take those away, he’s nothing.
I have no stats on this, but a lot of young Americans have gotten to voting age in the past 2-3 years. hopefully they are starting to pay attention to the garbage that comes out of his mouth and will be repulsed by it. conversely, in that same period a lot of Trump's old Fox-hypnotized voters will have croaked.
forgot to say -- as an example of this, he went 100% racist at the Black Journalist thing yesterday, ensuring that he dominated the headlines which Harris has been taking from him recently.
Trump was so bad yesterday that his campaign pulled the plug halfway thru the one hour interview. Harris stayed classy though: This afternoon, Donald Trump spoke to the National Association of Black Journalists. It was the same old show. Let me just say: The American people deserve better than Donald Trump’s divisiveness and disrespect.
An example of the media giving Lumpy a pass. Washington Post this time. Now we all know by now that his questioning of Harris’ ethnic make up was little more than racist dog whistles and a wink, wink, nudge, nudge to the Nick Fuentes’ of this world. But the Washington Post can’t admit that. So their first headline today reporting it: It’s all on Harris, whorebucket that she is. Obviously. So there was pushback on the WP and they amended the headline: No longer on Harris, that shameless hussy, it’s now part of the contest. At no stage, though, in either headline is Lumpy called to account and I would argue that in respects the second headline is perhaps even worse. But accountability is coming, albeit drippingly slow.
in fairness, that guy has word usage limitations and limited synapse availability.... was he standing up? or blinking? also at the time??
This is/has already been heaviy focused on by those analysts who aren;t front and centre on the big networks.... even while Biden was still in.....
found this - does anyone know if it's accurate? Since 2016 20 million US baby boomers are dead...and 40 million Gen Zs became voting age.
He's never been a good politician. He's been a great carnival barker - really good at drawing attention to himself and redirecting/misdirecting when he's put on a spot. But he's never managed to build any sort of consensus on anything. For all this talk about being such an amazing real estate developer, he's not managed to build much of anything politically. This is the downside of ruling by fear... no one will dare to perk their head up for fear of getting noticed and put in their place.
given that the Tw@t is so enraged by Harris having - gasp! - dual heritage, someone needs to ask him what he thinks about the racial identity of Vance's kids.
I take your point about politician versus carnival barker. However Lumpy does have good political instincts. He’s very good at sticking his finger in the air to see which way the wind’s blowing. Essentially he has glommed onto white resentment, channeled anger, created or moulded the MAGAverse and used all of the above to remake the GOP and to a lesser extent, politics at large. He has focused on his constituency: evangelical, Christian, not college educated, blue collar types and told them they’re being taken for granted, overlooked, laughed at. His problem is that his shtick will wear thin (it is now) and when he doesn’t deliver for his constituency, they will turn on him. If this were many other countries, he’d already be in power and have changed the power structure so comprehensively that he’d be in forever. But he is a good politician because he has tapped into this vein of resentment and downtrodden, managed to hide his role in it and has ridden the wave to 1600 once maybe twice in November. (I will say he’s beginning to look more and more like yesterday’s man recently). He doesn’t have longevity as a politician. This is not about his age, the longevity is about his firefly type political existence. It doesn’t last, like all carnival barkers he does get found out, but as I say, the really good fascists are usually in power about now, changing the rules for continued existence.
In the last week, Lumpy and Vance have gone after Jews, women, blacks and Indians/SE Asians. Who knew there’s a road to the WH without majority support in these groups?
Who says he won't have their support? He's royally screwed over the working class yet still seems to be, for a majority of them, a hero.
Precisely because he has screwed over the working class. People are getting wise to his shtick. Vance has had huge pushback to his cat lady shit, he’a being openly laughed at for his racist bullshit of recently became black, his supporters are being called out for their crap that Harris isn’t ready because she’s a woman. 4 years, 8 years ago this stuff was allowed to slide. With the exception of the Washington Post today, he and his campaign are being called out. A lot.
this is superb .... The New York City Sanitation Department seemed to subtweet Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), former President Donald Trump’s running mate, with a suspiciously timed message about disposing of sofas. “Have a couch you just... don’t love anymore?” the agency wrote on X and other social media sites on Sunday, followed by instructions on how to discard it. The post included an image of a couch with some questionable stains: Have a couch you just...don't love anymore? Set it out the night before your TRASH ONLY (not recycling) collection day. pic.twitter.com/DUhX4uDVtk — NYC Sanitation (@NYCSanitation) July 28, 2024
Not correct. A majority of republican working class. Not of the non-aligned (or obviously the democrat party affiliated WC) To get an 8 Million majority Biden would have had that number total on him too... It'll just be much higher this time as any decent minded centrist can;t vote for Trump without basically lying to themselves. My honest feeling is (and has been for quite some time) that that would be an odd stipulation to make for anyone for such a piece of puke....
