Every athlete will have that 1 big contract. At age 26, this will be Chiesa's. I don't blame him. I can see him fitting in at Spurs just fine. Surely he can get playing time over Kulusevski and Timo Werner. He'll know Kulusevski, Bentancur, Dragusin, Vicario, Udogie. Even if Dybala wants him at Roma, I can't see how he prefers Roma. Tottenham are underachievers but their potential is higher than Roma. If Calafiori goes to Arsenal to join Jorginho, the North London Derby will be an even better watch.
I think Spurs are the best option for Chiesa. Like you said, it’s a good environment already for him. Roma should be more focused on profiles like Soule.
yes his passing stats are atrocious it's not even that he is not good for the national team he is a well below average passer for any top league. It's too bad you can't put his brain into Locatelli's body. He should honestly be converted into a number 9. He can be this generations Inzaghi he has that unteachable instinct to find space in the box. I would genuinely bring him on as a sub for Scamacca to run into the box. Obviously this is unlikely so bringing him on as your second striker attacking mid in a 4231 world as well where he is essentially a striker anyway. They did this against Albania so it is not out of the realm of possibility.
An unfit Verratti just in from a nights drinking would have still led the midfield better against the Swiss than anyone else. They needed that one player in their to give them any chance of attempting to play like Spalletti wanted. Its a shame he has been phased out as hes still more than good enough. Hopefully he takes a pay cut and makes a return to Europe as he can still give a lot. With his style of play, he can get away with a questionable lifestyle, more than most midfielders. It just shows you how good he is.
Spurs is not a bad idea for Chiesa because of the italian block already there. If Italians have to go to the EPL I generally prefer Spurs or Chelsea. I don't love Tonali at Newcastle despite their rejuvenation financially. I am still hoping he lands at Napoli or Roma but we will see how that goes. If Osimhen and Krava are sold in a monster deal to PSG Napoli will need a RW option and will have plenty of money to give Chiesa a raise. There has also been talk of a Raspadori Chiesa swap.
Verratti could do a Pirlo to Juve situation if he deices to come out of retirement. The issue is he is being paid obscene amounts of money and I think it is for another 2 season still. But yes given his profile he could have a late career run like Pirlo from 33-36. People forget how dismissed Pirlo was in 2011 at 32. The issue is I don't think Verratti gives a ******** any longer. He just wants to get paid smog cigs and enjoy his life while he is young and not wait any longer. He is essentially retired. See the following. "In his contract for Al-Arabi SC, Marco Verratti negotiated one week off per month without training to leave Doha and return to Paris."
I don’t want Chiesa at Napoli with out without Kvara. Not because he’s a bad player, but because Napoli are a team that have always been experts at finding the “next Chiesa” etc. I hold Conte in high esteem, but he has to do good with the players we give him. Chiesa is more or less a finished product.
Milan Napoli Inter Juve all trying to sign 17 year old CB from Sampdoria Giovanni Leoni. He is right footed and maybe along with Scalvini can be a solution for RCB obviously we have no idea what he will be but I have to say I know people don't like to get too excited over teenagers but there is more talent with potential at this moment than there has been for 20 years. There were not a bunch of italian teenagers that were sought after by big clubs all around Europe a decade and a half ago. We were excited for the likes of Caldara at the age of 23 because he could at least get game. Things look optimistic for the next cycle.
It's funny how Verratti loved PSG and Paris--even turned down an opportunity to go to Barcelona--and yet PSG allows a new coach to come in and kick Verratti out, the only guy who actually is loyal to the club. PSG wants all these mega-stars to play for them, but none of them really love the club, they just love the paycheck, and all of them eventually sour on that, too. Great coaches get publicly blamed for everything. It couldn't be the ownership, though... Donnarumma seems unaffected by the increasingly empty, corporate nature of the club, because he still plays like a beast every time he suits up for Italy. I hope he can retain the motivation and level to play great, because it certainly isn't coming from anything resembling a proper culture at PSG.
Milan keeps replacing old, not-Italian strikers with slightly younger, not-Italian strikers. Camarda better exceed the already insane expectations, because if he gets a start two years from now and doesn't score, Milan is going to loan him to CSKA Moscow and sign Joselu to a 3-year contract. All these front-office people in Serie A are paying lip-service to playing Italians, but based on their actions they don't intend to change a damn thing. It actually may get worse before it gets better.
Looks like Calafiori’s move to Arsenal has hit a road block. Bologna are not interested in their bonus clauses and Arsenal are trying to get Basel to reduce their sell on %. Unknown at this time if Juve are back in for him. But maybe Real might be interested since their target Yoro signed with Man U
Can't really call it lip service because it's not like they vowed to bring along more Italian players. Upthread a word was used -- Profile. Been seeing it used a lot during this mercato. This is code word for non-Italian as far as I'm concerned. At Juve, Guintoli thinks he is putting together a NBA team and there is absolutely no shortage of players of that profile from across the Alps. Take for example today they picked up a LB from Verona. Colombian. In 2 Years there he only played the last 6 Months. Injury and on the bench. YET he is Juve material? From 1 trash LB Alex Sandro to this Juan Cabal that nobody on J-Twitter has heard of. If they wanted a squad player level LB to play Coppa Italia matches or the last 5 Minutes of a match they could have just kept Luca Pellegrini. Absolute bang average player but so is this guy they brought in. I expect the only 2 Italian starters next season will be Di Gregorio (usually the GK) and Cambiaso. Loca? Who knows. Will probably be fighting for scraps. Chiesa I'm sure now will be gone or they will treat him like he's got leprosy and bench him. EDIT: this new LB, Cabal, also missed an extended period with injury. But they will claim Chiesa is not the same player after his injury.
He needs to play in Serie A this year. IMO he's a promising Regista with athleticism. Mancini gave him a shot a few years back and he played really well with Spezia
Damn Leoni is only 17 YO and already 6'4". Quite the twist in his loan. Usually a bigger club loans out to a smaller club but in this case Leoni is owned by Padova in C but loaned to Samp in B. EDIT: he missed the cut off for the victorious U17 team by 11.
It’s now or never for him. His brother Seba just did his medicals with Empoli. Might be a good environment for him.
Saw some Massaro hate in one of the threads that I'm banned from. Did baggio ever score 2x in a champions league final. @falvo Of course I agree with overall point that sacchi is a blowhard
Empoli have been poor for a few seasons but they have survived and have new stadium plans and a good amount of young Italian talents. They could be a club to watch going forward. with regards to the national team they have Cancellari Fazzini Cambiaghi who are still interesting young players. Esposito could fit in well.
Empoli are the typical yoyo club but they remain a good environment for young Italians. They’ve always leaned towards Italians in their transfer market. Also Cancellieri is back at Lazio. Cambiaghi was sold to Bologna
