Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Yes the Rapids first-team is much better on the field. But the problems that came to a head last year were only partially about results. They were also about a lack of investment on infrastructure, front office, training facilities, etc. Other than a refresh of a dozen menu items at the Dick there hasn't been much of a change on that front. We're still waiting to see a real investment in the fan experience and support for the team.
How are there no updates on the two stadiums currently under construction? A few years ago we had construction cams on Columbus/Cincy/Austin at the same time. I even watched the Crew’s training center get built. Now it’s crickets. Weird.
NYC is pretty early in the process. 2027 is the completion date. As for Miami, I have no idea. Nothing since August of 2023 that I can see. Supposedly it is gonna open in 2025 sometime.
Wasn't there a problem with the heights of the stands in Miami as it's close to an airport. Did I imagine that?

This is about as good of a location for a stadium as one can expect in the Boston area. Easy commute from the city, blah, blah, bah. That tower behind it would be the Encore casino. I'l believe it when I see it. There are so, so, so, so many hurdles to overcome. But it does seem like there's broader political support than there's been in previous attempts. So at least there's that positive. Mass. Senate passed bill with Revolution stadium language (boston.com)
That photo with the sailboats is a bit........................aspirational. That's the Mystic River of Dennis Lehane novel and Clint Eastwood/Sean Penn movie fame.
Does Boston have a passenger ferry fleet? I see 2 of them in that picture. EDIT: What do you mean I can google it myself?? No idea where on that map the stadium is tho. EDIT2: What? Google still exists? I wish them luck on the site cleanup.. Appears to be some sort of oil or gas storage currently on the site... Eek. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ThRvVAJPdZA1zz6L8
The area is going to look completely different 5, 10, 20 years from now. The amount of money and political capital going into this already is more than I ever expected.
Big beautiful map you have there. Everett isn't on it. Gotta go a little more North. This new stadium proposal is right where that Encore Boston Harbor Casino is. As you can imagine, there's lots of transportation options to that casino area including a free water shuttle into North Boston and water taxis. Options growing all the time. They're really trying to build it up, and the above poster is right about them trying clean up that whole Mystic River area. Somerville and Cambridge are on the other side of the Mystic River. Big population centers where the people who work in Boston actually live. Harvard, MIT, Tufts, etc. Young and diverse population area. If you're not building in Boston (which is essentially impossible), then this is as good of a spot as any. If this happens, ya'll can spend the night at the casino and then go to the game!!!!!!!! Not a bad road trip. It looks close to the airport..................as the crow flies.
Announced last night on the Galaxy podcast, Digniy Health Sports Park is getting an upgrade for next season. Gone are the bleachers with all new seats installed, field level suites, new player benches and more to come.
Didn't the Chargers install seats, then Galaxy put bleachers back, and now bleachers are going again? Anyway, this is all sure to decrease capacity even more, maybe down to LAFC's level - UGH.
They said it might be less or they might add more as this was just the beginning so that it will be done for next season but there might be even more after that.
Of the first generation SSS used/built in MLS. 1. Lockhart Stadium: Miami, 1998-2002. Torn down. Inter Miami's current hime is on the same site. 2. Columbus Crew Stadium. 1999-2021. Still there and in use for Crew2 and other events. Team training facility is there. Crew in new digs. 3. Dignity Health, Carson, LAG, 2003. Upgrades coming. Still in use. 4. Toyota Park, FCD, Frisco, 2005. Still in use. 5. Seat Geek Stadium, Fire, Bridgeview, 2006-2019. Still there. Fire2 uses it, I believe. Fire back at Soldier Field.
Don’t forget The Dick. Opened in 2007. As did BMO in Toronto, but obviously, that was for an expansion team, so not first gen.
We've seen Toyota Park get some significant modifications, and now Dignity Health is getting the same. So that makes the Dick arguably the oldest SSS in use by a MLS first team still in its initial configuration
Hasn't there been changes to the Dick since it was built though? Subaru Park is unchanged in the seating area though
In the bowl? Not really unless you count pulling the seats out of the supporters section to make the terrace. The North End has undergone revisions over the years but its always been a concrete pad with various removable seating options on it (think of the stage at Toyota Park). The changes that impacted the capacity numbers have largely been the reduction/removal of the field side and concourse seats and a major reworking in the suites to create the Summit Club area.
Dignity health Park is undergoing its second round of upgrades after the chargers renovated it previously.
I did not forget, just took the first 5. As you mentioned, BMO was before the Dick, so it complicated my 1.0 thing. But, yeah, I'd certainly out the Dick in that category. Not BMO, though.
DSG Park Opened: April 7th, 2007 BMO Field Opened: April 28th, 2007 (The DSG Park opening was the season kickoff game in 2007)
