Spain’s run of 136 competitive games with more possession than their rival, going back 16 years to Euro 2008 final, is over. Croatia with 53% of the ball today - and Spain with the 3-0 win.— Dermot Corrigan (@dermotmcorrigan) June 15, 2024

I always felt Italian football is the closest to international football in terms of style/tempo and the emphasis on strategy from coaches, which gives them an advantage
I agree. It also helps that they produce a lot of good managers and as a result often have one in charge of the NT.
Italy looked like potential winners in their opening match at the last Euros but they didn’t look like tournament winners tonight,
I picked Italy to finish second in the group behind Spain... Feel good about that. Very good defending team despite that first goal, which is a complete one-off.
But you can never write them off, can you; they always seem to play up to their opponents (Spain/Croatia) or in the case against Albania, play down to their opponents. They also have a history of starting slow and getting better in the knockout stages and morphing into an organised 'almost impossible to beat' machine Croatia are the same, similar mentality to the Italians. In recent World Cups, esp with Italy failing to qualify, its almost like Croatia have stepped in and replaced Italy's void in the tournament..
Stojkovic: "Playing against #ENG we have to be fully concentrated. Maximum impact. We are going to do everything we can to create problems for the English team. We are going to be ready for this challenge called England." #SRBENG— Henry Winter (@henrywinter) June 15, 2024 1802010954516803967 is not a valid tweet id
