Bummer............. USMNT attacker and Club America star Alex Zendejas breaks leg in Liga MX action | Goal.com US
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_...goes-back-surgery-premier-league-season-start Whoever the next coach is, they need to plan as though Adams will never be available and treat his presence as a luxury.
I think whoever the next coach is should not play players who are coming back from a year long injury and still on "minutes restriction." If a player is not fully healthy, they should not be playing, especially a player who is recovering from a significant injury.
Yeah, and with Maloney and Johnny available, as much as I love Tyler Adams, even in hindsight, it was a reckless coaching decision.
The minutes restriction is usually fitness related and not injury related. You can be completely healthy, but it still takes time to being able to build up to playing a full 90 minutes.
Yeah, that's what it should be, but it seems like maybe in this case it was something else. And that's a problem. Sounds like his club was still concerned he was not fully healthy, yet he played and reinjured himself at Copa. "He finished the season with an injury in his back," Iraola said. "He wanted to play Copa América because it was very important for him, but he had restrictions and was still in pain, so two days after they were knocked out, he had surgery." I'm sure the real details are known by those behind the scenes, and we won't ever know the full story, just seems like it turned out to be a really poor move playing him before he was fully ready.
Well, Bournemouth cleared him to play. The USMNT doctors must have cleared him to play. And Adams wanted to play. Should Berhalter have played him? I don't know. Depends what he saw in training. But I remember that he'd played very little prior to the Nations League semi/final. Then he showed up and played very well, scoring a thunderbolt of a goal against Mexico. This is kinda been Adams' pattern for a number of years now. Its a miracle we had him healthy for WC22. [Its weird when you look at Adams' career stats. He's never played 2500 minutes in a league season. Antonee Robinson has played over 3000 minutes the last three Premier League seasons. Tyler Adams has never done that. Not once. I'm not talking about "across all competitions." Just the primary league season. He's never been that type of regular for one reason or another.]
People are just wildly speculating based on their previous opinion of Berhalter. Just stop it. Only Tyler, his coaches and his medics know.
Just for the record. I'm not specifically blaming Berhalter and I'm only speculating by taking the words directly from the medical staff from his club. But I do agree we don't know the full story from the outside.
I would be pretty shocked if Tyler's doctors told him he could make it worse. But given that his performance wasn't sparkling and required subs, I think it ended up being the wrong move. I admire his desire to play, though. Back injuries are very worrisome long term.
This is what their coach said pre tournament, “ He also has the Copa America at the end of the season, which probably is good for him, he keeps growing and positions himself for the pre-season in the best way.” So it feels like the club is trying cover themselves after the fact a bit and trying to shift blame.
Some good stuff here that Bournemouth don’t consider the injury to be a major one and think Adams will be back in September or October (and as a result aren’t trying to bring in a new player at the 6). https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5658890/2024/07/29/tyler-adams-injury-bournemouth-usmnt/
I wish I had more confidence in their medical staff but they've allowed him to play several times when looking back it seems he wasn't ready. So will he come back and then get re-injured quickly? Again?
Looks like Pulisic has a small ankle injury and may miss the season opener for Milan. TBD Christian Pulisic injury update: Will USMNT star miss start of 2024-25 season with AC Milan after picking up ankle problem? | Goal.com US
I believe the answer is "no" and that this is purely precautionary, as posted in other threads (e.g., YA).
