It's a balancing act. You can have a leadership council but you need to be very selective about who's included in it. Those players need to be accountable to themselves and hold the rest of the team to a high standard, or else the coach has to step in. Gregg selected players who are extremely poor leaders and low on accountability, and then doubled down by being unwilling to overrule them. Pulisic in particular should have never been given sacred cow treatment.
Your best players are not always your best leaders. Very common mistake also in the corporate world as well.
The knock I have with GGG, and to be honest Nancy and Porter is they are not flexible enough in the tactics. Sometimes you need to play a different way because of opponent, injury, red cards, etc. I think the incredibly successful older managers that are 60+ have been through the phase of we will play my way or the highway. They have learned a thing or two and I would like to see some more experience in whoever we bring in.
There is a report out of Argentina that Pochettino’s name is gaining steam with the USSF, according to ‘sources’. Since this is an Argentine outlet, I assume this is coming from someone near or around Poch. So, I think it’s safe to assume the USSF put the feelers out, since they did that with Klopp too. Now, I assume there is a base level of competence at the USSF (big assumption, I know) that they know Poch made $10 million+ per season the last couple jobs. They might not be willing to go that far, but I hope this means, at least, that they are ready to give the US coach a big raise compared to GB.
The Berhalter Era Pt 2 didn't last long. I'm leaving this thread open for any further discussion directly related to Ggggg, his "inner circle," his flexibility and tactics (or lack thereof), and his and the USMNT's performance (or lack thereof) at the 2024 Copa America, and Ggggg's future. There is a new thread here for discussion of the search for a new manager, and if anyone wants to discuss the latest developments of the players post-Copa. Have at it!
My prediction is Ggggg ends up in Austin as coach of the Broccolis... I know would be weird, him replacing Wolff, one of his former assistants. But obviously Ggggg and Prejerk have a history together. And if I recall, Ggggg likes ambition.
I can't imagine that Gregg would ever work for Precourt again. He did a great job of keeping the team mentally separate from the relocation saga. But he saw all the shit go down, lived through it, day-to-day. Precourt gutted the organization, including the academy. I assume Berhalter hates the guy.
Okay, guess they’re best buds. Does that photo prove Pulisic wants to play there, too? I assume Berhalter was in Austin for a Nats game a fat Tony asked for a photo with him the Pulisic. Agreeing to work for the asshole again is quite a bit different.
