hopefully USWNT gives her a chance & caps her before the Dutch do..and for finding lil nuggets like Yohannes, USSF should make you their international scout! htough not sure if they can afford an salary after paying the big bucks for Emma Hayes

I've seen her play five or six times this season and she is the real deal. Great passing skills and positional play. She had two through passes against PSG that set players free. Unfortunately, she missed an absolute sure goal right in front of an open net as she skied the ball over the cross bar. She is the youngest player on a very youthful Ajax side.

She's been playing in the US setup with the enthusiastic support of her parents. The Dutch don't allow dual citizenship for naturalized citizens, so the US is in a decent position.

    Lily Yohannes profile:

    https://sports.yahoo.com/lily-yohan...s-league-is-us-soccer-watching-204000510.html

Lily was born in Springfield, Virginia, into a soccer-crazed family with international football heritage. Her Eritrean maternal grandfather, Bekuretsion Gebrehiwot, starred for the Ethiopian national team, and scored a legendary goal in the 1968 African Cup of Nations. Gebrehiwot later fled the country amid political unrest, and eventually settled in the U.S. His daughter, Semhar, came of age in the States, which is where she met and married Daniel Yohannes.

Why NCAA players are going to Mexico:

    https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/38950832/why-female-ncaa-players-moving-liga-mx-femenil

Although Liga MX Femenil doesn't keep track of the exact number of players who have been part of the NCAA, a quick search through the full rosters of 2023 Apertura finalists Club America and Monterrey highlights a total of 21 players with U.S. collegiate soccer experience. When expanding that search to all eight Liga MX Femenil teams that qualified for the playoffs, the number then grows to 55.

Of those 55, over half (32) are U.S.-born players like [Maricarmen] Reyes that are able to be registered as domestic Mexican players due to their lineage through family. Others, such as [Carlee] Giammona, take a chance on a culture and country they may not know much about.

Lily Yohannes got the match winner for the Ajax Ladies today. She was rested on Thursday when Ajax played Roma in the CL as the club had four matches in 10 days. Ajax are the youngest squad in the CL with most of the players under the age of 22 so trainer Suzanne Bakker is rotating players. Yohannes started the game in the MF, swiching to CB in the second half when she got her goal off a corner kick that was not cleared. She had a more than decent match with some nice passing. The only criticism is she looks to be uncertain of her shot as she carried the ball deep into the box on two occasions but elected to pass when she really should have shot. Unfortunately, each pass was unsuccessful.
